Candy White Golf GTI Ed. 30 - 8th track day at Estoril
« on: April 04, 2015, 09:44:16 am »
Hello again! After the diesel GT Sport I had to get the best petrol version.

So I'm the new owner of a Candy White 3 doors Ed. 30 with DSG MY2008. Most likely the only in my country with this colour. It's pretty much in mint condition and has less than 35.000 miles.

I already have a long list of mods to do and some were already ordered.

Here's an old picture. The previous owner made some changes to the centre grill and wheels but I'll return them to OEM look and fit my OZ instead.

Yeah, you're right, this is still very poor on pictures but only Thursday I had my OZ fitted and I didn't have any good chance to take them yet. :|

Managed to update the factory fitted RNS-510 version A to a modified firmware that gives more disc space for maps, allowing to install the current V12 (2015) maps. Link for the firmware: http://www.rnsfirmware.com/firmware-4020-for-older-units-in-europe-with-hdd-rations-60355/

I had to use a CD-R from Verbatim do get the unit to read it properly. It didn't like the CD-RW from Sony that I used previously to update a previous version B and my current version P. Fortunately it liked the DVD+R DL from Memorex and copied all of the maps at the 1st attempt.

I'll try to take pictures soon, before it starts to rain like it's forecasted.

As forecasted it started raining today. I'm glad I took some pictures early today. I didn't have time to give it a proper clean but it'll do for now. I'll upload them later today.

    Cheers

Yesterday started fitting new bits in my new machine.

Got an OEM boot tray (1K0061180) and a neighbor was nice to give me an OEM boot net and an OEM first aid kit that the previous owner must have taken.

Bought new rubber mats but VW updated them to the ones from the mk7 Golf. Tried one for the rear and it didn't fit properly. Compared the one for the driver with my carpet mat and it was nothing alike as well. I'll return them tomorrow. Fortunately a friend in a different city was able to get the "old" rubber mats for me today.

Also asked for an Edition 30 boot badge and VW stopped producing them in June of 2014. Searched online and they already started to be overpriced almost everywhere.  :surprised: Still managed to order a pair for less than Mandy and others are asking in ebay for just one.

They are connected to the Bluetooth module. The biggest is for voice control, the other for Assistance and the other for Information? I don't have an old cellphone to synchronize with this Bluetooth module so I'm not 100% sure.

When I have time to read the manual or get the new module it'll be easier.

Fortunately a friend in a different city was able to get the "old" rubber mats for me today.

Sorted the problem with the rubber mats. After all the VW Parts clerk made a confusion and gave me the mats that another person ordered. They have a very similar part number and he thought those mats were for me, not noticing the different part number.

So I returned them and since I ordered parts to renew the suspension, I'll get their value discounted when I pick up those parts.

Since my friend already got the correct ones I'll receive them soon.

Too much trouble for such simple thing but will all end well. :signLOL:

Thanks mate! I'm in Lisbon so I can go to the hills near Sintra that have some lovely roads in the natural park. But first I want to sort the suspension as I feel the car too bouncy for my taste. The GT Sport with its upgraded but still comfortable suspension handles better at the moment.
