Should you use a car cover?
« on: April 06, 2015, 09:39:28 am »
We spend all this time detailing and then it rains, some of us don't have access to a garage. I assume there is some risk of swirls using a car cover - Does anyone use one?

Any covers out there that would be suitable?

I used one...got a custom fit breathable one.
You do need to be careful with them though.
I don't use mine now cos you need 2 people to put them on!!

I personally would never use one.  I've seen them mark peoples paint quite badly from it moving around on the car.  Fair enough you might be able to get an expensive one that might not mark the paint (never seen or looked for one though personally) but I'd much prefer to let my cars get rained on then clean, dry it off and continue.  Or a with a properly detailed car if it's just parked up rain will just sheet off it nicely :).

A really good one will set you back £300 - £500 and theyre the only ones worth getting. Just make sure its always got a decent wax/ sealant on it and Itll be fine.

Surely you risk far more swirls, slight scratches, etc with a car cover than you ever do from even the heaviest of downpours?  :rolleye:

Maybe a really bad hail storm might be the one blue moon occasion when the car cover justifies its use?
