A puzzling steady vibration
« on: April 07, 2015, 01:42:36 pm »
When it started.
Playing with a motorcycle and reached a certain speed. Slowed up and then went for it again. Only this time beyond 80mph I get a vibration.

Symptoms.
- First it comes through the steering wheel at 80mph gently.
- At 90mph its vibrating through the car. Anything past 90mph it stays kinda at the same aggression.
- Deliberately weaving side to side while on cruise control on a flat surface at 90mph, the vibration stays constant.
- Anything above 90mph the car begins to wonder about, constantly correcting with the steering wheel.

Actions taken.
- Taken wheel spacers off. NO DIFFERENCE.
- Swapped wheels around. NO DIFFERENCE.
- Fitted new tyres. Wheels balanced obviously. SLIGHTLY WORSE IF NOT NO DIFFERENCE.
- Poly bushed my wishbones. NO DIFFERENCE.
- Checked CV joints for clicks or movement while car was up on a ramp. SEEMS SOLID.

Suggestions.
- Steering rack bushes?
- Anti roll bar bushes?
- Buckled wheels?

My front shocks are knackered and top mounts. I have bought some new ones to fit asap.

Have I just solved my own question with the shocks and top mounts? Or is the symptoms suggesting something else?

I'm also having a similar experience with mine at the moment and first of all put it down to wishbone bushes and have planned to get them polybushed in the near future so will keep an open eye on this thread to see how you manage to resolve your problem.

I'm also getting a knocking noise to here and there over lumps and bumps.. Just wondered if your have heard anything similar with yours?

Join the club! Is it your exhaust resonating?

If I hold the revs between 2000-2500 when not moving I can hear a metallic rattle from the exhaust.

My exhaust is causing the entire car to vibrate only doing 30mph the interior trim is rattling (door cards particularly) like mad inside the car and the exhaust note is really deep more than it used to be. Can't even hear the radio turned half way up just a mega loud droning from the exhaust. The exhaust is rattling/clanking and when going round a corner makes a sound like a shovel being dragged! Today I had no warning lights on the dash but the car wouldn't accelerate above 40mph no turbo kicked in and couldn't get it above 3500rpm!

The stealers had a look at the exhaust for me a few months back and they said nothing wrong but I think there is its getting worse!

Mines not the exhaust, it definitely feels like rotational cause. My wish bones are Poly bushed. I'm convinced again its my drivers cv joint.

I think my cars about to blow!  Needs a walking frame to get up to 40 mph!  Even the rear view mirror is vibrating!
