car sounds like electric motor when driving
« on: April 08, 2015, 10:07:49 pm »
Just wondering, my car seems to whine when im driving kinda like an electric motor sound or the sound of a straight cut gear. It's not very loud but I did notice it today with the radio off. Is this normal? Or a potential problem? Cheers.

I changed my alternator pulley, as my clutch was slipping on it. Made a whine a bit like that while driving.
I removed my aux belt and ran the car for a seconds and the noise was not there, i checked the play on the tensinor and that was ok, so being in the middle of the range for life on the pull (60,000-80,000 miles) i had a stab and it was indeed that.

Hope that helps.

Youtube the noise, see if any match up with your noise.
There is no replacement for displacement....
But a turbo does help....

What sort of speed does it make the noise as it could be a wheel bearing

The noise seems to have disappeared, i checked my oil level today and it was very! low, so topped it up and it seems to have stopped the noise :/. Hopefully it wasn't running that low for long
