rex - physical engine swap was easy part - both engines out and tfsi into touran including full front subframe / rack / heatshields / a/c pipes / mounts / milltek (extending 4" and down turns) and modifying intake pipe in 1 day

the hard part (i didn't foresee) was wiring - unlike mk4 golfs i'm used to messing with the mk5 / touran looms are pretty much one piece, half of the ecu loom is 'built in' to car loom, car loom basically runs from front lights to rear lights and everything inbetween.

after pouring 3 full days into trying to wire touran loom to work with tfsi engine i gave in, decided best option was to do full loom swap, this means every module / ecu / sensor had to be used from golf including airbag crash sensors and ignitors as touran items are not the same.

after dropping the loom in getting it running was easy, everything else took time - swapping heater boxes and controls as golf was dual zone climate, wiring rear lights (work slightly different to golf) extending many bits of loom for longer, taller touran, fitting sensors touran didn't have but golf did, converting headlights from xenon to normal, converting one (golf) wiper motor wiring to two (touran) and all sorts of things you don't even consider - washer bottle with level sensor, rain sensor, twin horns etc etc

Thought so....
The wiring is what is scaring me. But I guess it should be easier since I have a Golf.
Do you think I might have some unforeseen problems? Or any advice on how to select the 'donor' car?
Thank you  :notworthy:

Epic build, an awesome amount of work too which is great to see!

I'd love to own this car, the joy of seeing the look on people faces when it flys down the road would be brilliant!

If it was me I'd 100% have a TDi badge on the rear just to really add to the effect! :happy2:

rex - if you're really planning on doing it i have some rough wire translations. if you have full car it's not terrible - rear end wiring took a fair time as wires aren't even close to similar colours. i'd get the nearest spec 5 door golf i could.

i had to buy a few parts off ebay as i'd left them in the golf - side airbag ignitors (behind b pillar trim) crash sensors (inside doors on golf) touran doesn't have them. also where i converted to climatronic i needed a 'sun sensor' that fits touran dash (on top centre) and that plugs into golf loom.

there's a few things like airbag plugs different so need chopping off touran loom and soldering to golf loom, golf has tweeters in front door loom where touran has them in the dash

clocks didn't drop straight in, took a bit of shaving to get them into the dash, exhaust is the same all the way through but is longer on the touran around the rear wheel area, all hangers before and after match up but needs extending just before the rear wheel.

front subframe / rack etc is all the same fitment as are struts

the touran fsi pump seems to be a mash up of mk5 and mk4 but you can simply bolt the golf pump pot part to the sender and top of touran pump, you'll need to tend to fuel lines too and fit golf 6.6 bar filter and remove one of the touran return lines from the engine bay (blue)

Bignod00 - thanks bud, people hear the noise and chatter and look around bemused trying to see what that sound was as it certainly wasn't that family wagon

regards badge it's still wearing the 1.6 FSI badge with pride  :happy2:

That is absolutely awesome.

Some Touran/Golf 16/17" alloys would just complete the sleeper look.

lyons - thanks bud, unfortunately i need all the help / width i can get to get traction - agreed purchase of some 18x9's earlier

JaseGti -  :signLOL: just a silly thing i wanted to do since owning a dirty diesel touran a couple of years ago, always fancied a petrol one with power. seeing as the biggest petrol model they do is the 1.6 fsi powerhouse @104bhp  :notworthy: i had to build one.

I liked the speed line wheels most to be honest.

Still looks good on the latest wheels you have though.

hedge -   :happy2:

skard - most of it's laying around the workshop

Bignod - thanks bud, decided to sort the interior and bodywork then start looking at quattro conversion

Andy-GTI - it has suprised a couple of people, i haven't really 'raced' anything in it, just people sat on my bumper i drop it down a cog or 2 and they don't seem to keen to sit up my butt anymore

spankiee - i like them off the car but when they went on they were just too small looking. i've always fancied some helios and i think they suit this rather well.

tommy_d - thanks bud, it's been something i've wanted to do for a couple of years now and was finally in a position to do it.

A few things happened in the last week....

Polish woman nearly had a head on with me, she was coming around a turn at high speed on my side of the road at night, only option was to throw it up the verge / curb

Luckily the guy i bought the wheels off had a fifth and dropped it down to me

Made a mount for intake

Washed engine bay

Fitted powerflex bone bush

Fitted passat r36 rear arb

And gti rear splash guards

Mk5 interior monitor button arrived from ebay so dropped that in

Collected some touran sport seats off ebay

New vs old

All in

I also wired in and fitted mk5 alarm sensors (unfortunately no room in the headliner)

I wired in the rain/ light sensor too but waiting on special order parts to complete installation, i found this in a box of random parts from the mk5 so i've ordered adaptor lead to see if it works
