Oem vs aftermarket fenders
« on: April 16, 2015, 05:46:18 pm »
i'm about to replace both of my front fenders as i will be rolling the new fenders before paint and modify them a little. Now i'm wondering can i go for aftermarket ones? how will they fit etc? as Left + Right side aftermarket will be 100€ collected from local shop. any reviews on them and pics of fitment?

Generally pretty good.
Few friends have had replacement aftermarket front wings and you couldn't tell the difference.

guess i will go for them then. Hard to remove in my own garage? thought of fitting and getting them rolled ready to paint.

You can always a just them to fit properly if you know what you're doing. Has to be done on cars in factory with oem fenders!

I test fitted a couple of cheap ones that a mate got through work and fitment was really poor on both. One was really badly twisted where it meets the sill and the other had a bracket in completely the wrong place. I can upload some pictures over the weekend if you like?

After speaking to a couple of bodyshops I then ordered a Euro Car Parts 'platinum' one at a trade price of £40+VAT and it fits almost perfectly, the gap between the door is 2mm wider than the OEM one, but I think that a bit of persuasion would probably sort it.

In terms of removing them, it's pretty straight forward. Grill and bumper off, wheel off, arch liner out and then 3 bolts and a nut along the top edge, 2 at the front, 2 into the sill, 2 inside the wheel arch and one in the door shut.

BC Racing Coilovers : R32 Rear Bumper : Milltek Cat Back : R32 Rear Lights : S3 Brakes : Colour Coded Side Skirts : US Grill : 18" BBS CH : De-Wipered : Bluefin Remap : Pipercross Filter : S3 Short Shifter : Powerflex Wishbone Bushes : MK6 Steering Wheel : RCD510

I can't remember the brand name, but there is a company that sells wide fenders for Mk5 Golfs and people have said only good things about them!

They look weird with the wide fenders unless you roll around like Ricky at mega low.
Proper bodyshop flush rolled and pulled is enough for 99% of people.

Yeah I can imagine that being true! Do you have any idea how much it costs having a body shop do that? I had archenemy roll my front two for £120 but I want to go lower :signLOL:
