I'm after the Fiscon unit too... the OEM unit that Stu can supply is nice, but I like the extra functionality the Fiscon Basic Plus (new name for Pro IIRC) offers in the MFD.

It's the MDI connection but IIRC you can't use the MDI connection and the FISCON Basic-Plus, you have to use MDI and Skoda bluetooth (but someone might have sorted this out already).
If you have CAN-gateway version "L" or newer you should be alright. Current revision is "S" and costs around £100 from your dealer.
I don't really need the reversing camera for my Golf but I do like the look of getting the OCR and Climatronic displayed on it.

As far as I can tell, yes (as the MDI and FISCON Bluetooth require the connections on the back).
I don't have an iPod so it suits me ^^ Fiscon BT and internal HDD.

Hello all. Just got an RNS510 from the 'Bay. Sorry for dragging this old thread up, but its the only i could find in reference to upgrading from MFD2 to RNS510.

I have dealer fitted MFD2 in my car currently. I have not taken the dash apart to see whats going on behind the unit. However, does anyone expect that i will need anything else other than just the RNS unit itself?

Its a B revision device. My MFD2 is C revision.

This might help cmdfire,  and you Deako you need VCDS go to controller 37 navigation and in one of the setting which is for the MFSW you need to untick it to say its not fitted,  for some reason it conflicts with the setting on the can gateway and you get limited use of your steering wheel buttons.

When I first fitted my RNS I could only use the vol buttons but unticked the mfsw and every thing worked and I have a version E gateway,

I also fitted the Vw premium BT kit and as long has you have a nokia it should work I have the N96 and it works fantastic so much info in there,  when I get a text through it comes up on the FIS and I can do my speed dials on the rns :happy2:

I am pretty sure Phil Mcavity also went down this route, from MFD to RNS.  Might be worth dropping him a pm.

I dont have it unfortunately. Just going to plug it in and see how it goes.  :happy2: My car hasnt been coded for MFSW, it just worked without it, so im hoping that thisi will not be an issue.

hi all - i know this is a really old thread but I'm doing something similar. my MFD2 isn't factory fitted but I'm debating upgrading to a RNS 5510.

i currently have a iPod dock in the armrest (not the MDI unit) and didn't know if i needed to change the harness to one thats compatible with the RNS and the MDI unit? - this one doesn't charge my iPod (touch) so i wanted to upgrade to the MDI unit instead. i did have a cd changer in my armrest prior to updating to this dock but not sure if the same harness can be used?

my second question is i have the antenna for the GPS on the MFD2 (eBay job) - do i need a fakra wire aswell?
