Author Topic: Milltek vs "cheap" down pipe? (Read 1620 times)

Hello, probably about to open a can of worms here but here goes

I have been hugely impressed with my £140 "cheap" 3 inch ebay decat downpipe with my stock cat back exhaust. It sounds great when giving it the beans and It feels like its making a difference (revs better) Plus I was able to get revo stage 2 flash too

So why spend over £1000 on a full milltek turbo back? Correct me if I am wrong but the ebay down pipe is also stainless steel and 3" so is the milltek

I have been told that most of the gain is in the down pipe so for the price is it really worth it??

P.S I have bought a new south boost gauge to keep an eye on my engine. What are typical psi readings for stage 2 revo?

dunno about the cheap exhaust, I have turbo back full miltek and revo stage 2, boosts to about 20 or just over I think..

In short I wouldn't spend £1000 on a Miltek... Anways you may find this interesting.

Customer supplied one to me and I welded this into it:

Original flexi is braided internally and can shrink with heat

New ilok longer flexi. These can take silly heat before having issues

In short, there's no real world difference in the short term to which down like to get. Its over the years as continual heat cycles and stress take their toll, then the pricer systems that use better quality material will show why it cost more. But if you're not keeping the car long term them its not an issue.

I've got the eBay sports cat. Like the fist said its about the life of the product. Plus companies like milltek and Bcs will replace parts in years to come if they fail.

With cats, cheaper ones won't use as many rare earth metals and will last about 3-5 years but the pricer cats use enough to last 8 years or so. That's a really reduced version of a post from BCS themselves.
