Which DA polisher would you recommend?
« on: April 26, 2015, 11:18:32 am »
So i want a DA polisher and I am wondering what would people recommend? im willing to spend around the £100 mark as that seems to be the kind of price for a decent non proffesional one. Also what compound and pads should i get with it?

Kestrel DAS-6/ Dodo Juice Buff Daddy. They're the same thing. For pads either microfibre ones or Chemical guys hexlogic (my preferences) and compounds Menzerna FG400 or Meguires 105 and 205.

I have the old megs g220. My preferred combo is chemical guys hexlogic pads/menzerna polishes.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Along a similar theme, any of you guys bought a paint depth gauge or are you just hoping there's enough clear coat to allow for correction? I'd be interested to know if there are any out there that aren't a fortune as in the past I have gone through on an audi with a DA.

Burning through VAG paint with a DA is quite an acheivment since its virtually impossible, was it on an edge or panel gap by any chance?

I just bought a das6 pro, meguiars 105&205, 2 hexlogic pads for £140 delivered through cleanyourcar  :happy2:

Used DW05 as a discount code from detailing world for 5% off.

The das6 is 550w and the pro is 850w. I bit the bullet after hearing nothing but good things and hours of reading up.

Everyone is afraid of going through the clearcoat, but no one seems to know anyone who actually has done it. The risk does exist when you work close to sharp edged plastic parts such as bumpers with a rotary machine - just use some common sense and you'll be fine with them too. With the DA even that is virtually impossible like it was said above. : )

I personally gave up using the DA as it is not effective/fast enough to work on VAG paints. If I had to use a DA machine, it would be a Rupes type large throw one. Cleanyourcar.co.uk sells the DAS-21 machine which has received lots of positive feedback - that too is way more powerful than the basic DAS-6 which basically only tickles your GTI paint.
