1st trackday in a car.
« on: July 25, 2017, 10:27:56 pm »
Evening Guys

I'm taking the GTI for its 1st track evening on the 16th at Brands Hatch and would like peoples thoughts on setup. I've currently ordered:

Front Ferodo DS2500 pads
Nankang NS-2R tires all round
H&R Lowering Springs
Millers oils racing brake fluid 3000

I'm hoping for my 1st track day this will suffice?

Also is it worth stripping the back seats out and space saver?

Cheers

Not worth stripping the car. Don't get tempted into racing people...

There will always be someone faster than you! The best money I have ever spent on going to track days is on the tuition. The racing lines you thought you were driving will be wrong - the instructors know the tracks & will help you hugely.

Have fun! Never been to Brands, but would love to go!

Thanks for the replies. Rich83 can you recommend some good pads? And I'll see if they are offering tuition on that event cheers Dave J  :happy2:

+1 on tuition

I always pay for a 20min tutor session early on - well worth it.

Are those nankangs on a second set of wheels? If it's wet, you'll be much better off on good road tyres. I've done 3 wet trackdays in my TT track car, first 2 on NS2-R's (e.g. Vid below), and the latest this week on continental sportcontact 5's. You wouldn't believe how much better the road tyres are in the wet.

Good move changing up the brake fluid - a lot of people taking their road car out neglect that.

I'd say there's no harm ditching any easily removable weight.

I'll be using the Nankangs on the wheels I have at the moment unfortunately with the scope to get a spare set of wheels later on. That video looks wicked FJ1000. Proper wet!! Fingers crossed it won't rain.

As mentioned already, wouldn't bother with those pads as they just crumble when getting lots of heat into them. Go for pagid RS29 or Mintex M1155 at the very least. If you can afford, go Carbotech XP10's. Great pads and rarely fade at a
