Don't pay much attention to the actual reading, VCDS reads differently to what the needle shows too.

Just keep your eye on the needle, if you are seeing it dropping off 90 when up to temp then theres a stat issue.

It looks like there are two inline stats?? As he removed the second one without removing alternator etc?

Depends on year of car also as my 57 plate manual has no inline stats only the main which was replaced few months ago and all fine now  :happy2:

So by the looks of it the AXX has 2 inline stats with part number 4E0121113. May as well switch both of them out and see if it cures it??

Yes mate a 2005 DSG will have 2.

That's what we had done.  Dealer changed the main stat under warranty and that made it stay at 90 once up to temp.  However it still took stupid long to get up to temperature so we had the 2 regulators changed and its now up to temp in a few minutes.

So the AXX will still have the main stat behind the alternator which is a pita to replace?

Afraid so!  VW quoted 3 hours labour to do it, but luckily was picked up under warranty for us as it was within the used car warranty period.  They wouldn't listen to me about the regulators despite no end of online proof so had to get them done ourselves.  Local indy charged about 150 quid including parts IIRC.

We have the same as yours, 2005 AXX DSG GTI.

It does get to 90 but takes ages and then drops. So if i'm draining the coolant to do the cam belt/water pump i may as well switch out these three as well??
