Performance Flash Chip - Query on US-based Volo
« on: December 04, 2009, 03:47:23 am »
Wanted the seek the advice of many MOD gurus here. See link below from ebay. Currently having a yet-to-be modded 2009 Mk5 GTI, with 2k miles on it. Bought it new at almost 20% off the local ticketed price as they were bringing the Mk6 in-country.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2009-09-VW-Golf-GTI-OBD-Performance-Flash-Chip_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem33564756d2Q

For US$89.95, one can get this gizmo hooked up for a 20-30 hp gain.

Yes, based on the many threads, REVO, APR and even Superchips appear to be the preference. A search on Volo in this forum but nothing came up.

Anyone with views on this outfit called Volo is greatly appreciated.

Mucho gracias!

you get what you pay for. Would you plug in a tuning box into your 20k car that seems to be £300 cheaper than all other ecu modifications? i wouldnt..

Pay peanuts, get monkeys. I would not touch this kind of product - go for the reputable re-maps, you DO get what you pay for. The higher price reflects a huge number of hours in terms of research and development that gives assurances of the quality of the product you use.

ditto the previous comments.

aside from not knowing how much R&D has gone into this...
if you bought this and had a problem, what sort of after sales service could they help you with?

heres my 2p from my remap review

Quote
Which remap ?
Heres a list of criteria you may wish to consider when deciding on a remap :

Customer base (size)
customer feedback
type of customer profile
distance from you
cost
development time and resource to produce product
updates
are they VW specific or other makes too?
time in business for this specific car make
dyno plots (both from company and from forums , they differ greatly). shape is as, if not more important than ultimate numbers
AirFuelRatio data, EGR temp data etc
ability and type of switching , stock vs mapped mode
adjustable (only REVO can do this)

@edd666999, @Phil, @DomT, @ John_o

I shall wait till I have saved the quids in the kitty for a proper re-map. I dont want monkeys crawling all over the car having a field day.  :scared:

Many thanks, dudes!  :happy2:
