Shifter bushes
« on: May 05, 2015, 08:53:21 pm »
In my quest to eradicate the sloppy feeling from the gear change I have decided to replace the shifter bushes with 42dd but when I actually looked at the linkages the biggest source of play was from the pivot point of the side to side lever (no 47 in the link) where it joins the gearbox housing. It looks like no 48 is the replacement bush for this. Does anyone know how to replace this? And if you can get upgraded bushes for that area?

Thanks

It turns out 42DD make brass bushings for that very part.

So if I order the above plus:

And:

Is there anything else I can do to remove the slop? I'm toying with the idea of installing a Audi TTS short shifter but I'm not keen on the fact it only reduces the up and down throw and not the side to side action too...

Make sure you get the right bushes for the right shifter, they are age dependant on the car. Check out Draft Designs site for all relevant info and yes you can replace both shifters (left right and up down to put it simply) and all bushes plus add a AKS Bracket as well for a complete overhaul and a great, solid, tight throw.

I think all links etc are in my build thread, page 1.

Thanks mate, great mods on your car :happy2: How much did the bracket cost you? I can't seem to find it on their site.

Thanks.

IIRC the bracket bushes were around £30 plus fitting on top, was a couple of years ago though. Best pop Alex at AKS a call to find out if he has any of these available.

I have the full 42dd shifter kit - Love it.
Alex also fixed my pikey ebay quickshifter and a Leon Mk1 side to side shifter.
