Hi all.

As title,  can you put an aftermarket hid bulbs and ballasts kit into genuine xenons headlamps?

I think you can as long as you use a D2S HID kit as that's what fitment the genuine ones are.

What about the ballasts and ignitors? Do they also need to be genuine

with after market hid kits they come with all the ballasts to get them to work

if you buy genuine ballasts and igniters then no need for after market hid's  :happy2:

Cheers Dan.

I had a look at genuine igniters and ballasts but they are really expensive.  Will that hids direct kit work with your xenon headlamps? Anything else needed apart from the 12 to 10 pin loom?

you can't use cheapy aftermarket HID kits in proper xenon housings, bulb types etc are different.
buy proper ballasts.

my ballasts are on my bulbs having d1s bulbs on the rocco, bulbs are 80 quid each.

Cheers jay,  thats the answer i was looking for.

I remember on my polo 6n2 i got away with using an aftermarket hid kit on the oem projector headlamps, thought it might have been the same on the golfs.

Ill keep looking for a genuine set.

Thanks
