Paintshield
« on: May 06, 2015, 07:49:32 am »
Is anyone on here using paintshield protection (or similar)? I'm interested to see if it really makes a big difference in the way of stone chips, my only concern is it taking the shine off my paint etc. and if it dramatically discolours over time after sun exposure etc....

Any experiences?

I have done a search on here which goes back to 2009 but nothing more recent.

This is the site:

We've fitted PPF (pain protection film) to a few cars at work,
It makes a huge difference as its very difficult for any stone to penetrate, good films generally don't discolour and If they do it would take years. I don't think it dulls the shine really, as long as the paint underneath has been corrected thoroughly it will still look good. Also they're getting thinner and much harder to spot if fitted properly not like the inch thick stuff they use on the side of Porsches.

The main problems are keeping the edge clean as it often gathers polish/ wax ect.. And if its quite battered then when you remove it there's a small chance of the paint behind coming with it, but that would only happen if its taken a real hammering. Also its not cheap.

So i recieved my qoute from paintshield today.

As they haven't done a MK5 for a long time and the film material has changed to a thinner thickness, they would want the car in to develop a new kit, they are also sceptical that the kit would be ever needed again as the Golf platform has moved onto MK6 / MK7, so theoretically it’s a one off design.

These are the prices they gave me:

Standard kit: Bumper, part bonnet (wrapped edges), part wings (inner edges wrapped) wing mirrors: £1100.00 + vat
Full Front kit: Bumper, full bonnet (wrapped edges), full wings (inner edges wrapped), wing mirrors: £1850.00 + vat
Headlights: Headlights: £75.00 + vat
Complete: Every painted panel on car: £5200.00 + vat

Just mental, i cold have the full car wrapped another colour for £1100 +vat and a bare metal respray for £5200 +vat

:surprised:  :ashamed:

I'll just be sticking with Blutape and a full front Bra

Yeah its not a cheap thing to have done, I was expecting what they called 'standard kit' to cost about £750 - £900 and full front to be about £1200 -£1350. I'm surprised they can't just use the old schematics to cut the new film tbh. How much did you expect it to cost out of interest?

I was expecting around 700- 800 for the full front tbh. Their prices are just far too much.

Yeah for £2210 you can just get the front end repainted twice of you really wanted to. It is a bit silly, it's like insurance they just pull the number out of their ass
