Wheel weights?

Ok, fitted the TD's that I got from LOWR32 today, which are mint and exactly as described by Dom so thanks pal

I took the trouble of weighing the various wheel/tyre combos as I removed/fitted them

Stock  7.5X18 ET56 with Conti Contact 2 225/40/18    22.5kg

TD's     8X18 ET45 with Conti Contact 2 225/40/18      19.5kg

MTM's  8.5X19 ET50 with Goodyear Assys 235/35/19   23.5kg

So as you can see the TD's are 3kg lighter than stock and 4kg lighter than the MTM's per corner.

What needs to be considered I think is the fact that the MTM's are an inch wider and an inch bigger in diameter so they are bound to be heavier


So you track dogs, there was a formula for savings in unsprung/ sprung weight comparisions, what have I saved in 4kg per corner?16kg total?

The Works weigh 23 pounds without tyres, thats all i now pal. I think there pretty light considering thats 19in 8.5J.

My 18x8 Speedlines with tyres run about 19kg a corner and the OZs 18kg.

The rotating mass effect is somewhere between x3 and x4, depending on rim diameter.

I forgot to add, don't get too hung up on it chasing every gramme - lighter is better than heavy and you'll find the difference between the two are enough to note the benefit.

Another £xxxx for a 1/3rd of a kilo or whatever is daft unless you can afford it or winning depends on it.

not hung up at all, just interested. I wasn't looking for lighter wheels,was really happy with the way the MTM's look, then the TD's came up at a price that I thought would be interesting to see what a difference they might make. The MTM's will be going back on for the summer because they suit the car and I like um

The weight saving depends on who you listen to for the calculations

Dymag quote 6x the weight saving, but these are on their carbon rims, which we all know are feather light at the rim.

As Mike has said, the savin is on the unsprung, rotating mass and is approx 4x the physical saving, so....

16 x 4 = 64kg  equivalent weight from the body of the car.

Not bad at all that and should make the car feel more nimble off the mark, feedback will be better through the steering and a little more agile in bends. All good in my book Gaz

Hi guys. Here's someone sounding a lot like Robin : -

Chasing grams off the weight of wheels is obviously going to cost progressively more as you lessen the weight. TD's are clearly the best value-for-money re weight:price ratio and you don't really need any lighter for non-competitive track days. The fact that my OZ's are lighter is just an added benefit to my preferring their style to the TD's on my particular car and I can't be arsed to change wheels everytime I do a trackday or according to the weather.

....Not daft at all. I considered the TD's and the OZ Alleggerita's are only a wee bit lighter but the OZ's have soooo much more style and suit my car's looks better.
