Wheel repair advice please

I have been advised by VW at the latest EVC that one of my alloys has had a weld repair and they are advising a replacement. There was nothing mentioned on the first EVC in March. I have only owned the car since March and unsure what to do. I am contemplating either sourcing a replacement, getting the repair professionally checked somehow or just leaving it? Any advice gratefully received. The alloys are 18" Monza 2.

Not sure where you'd go but I'd have it checked before buying a new one, if the wheel is holding air and balanced properly then its not an imenent issue, as long as it's been done properly then it should be fine.

It appears to be holding air and not noticed any imbalance/wheel wobble. Just concerned but seems odd that one VW tech picked it up but the other one didn't :@

Yeah unless its a recall I don't take my car to VW. They just want you to pay for a new wheel, there's plenty of cars out there that have had wheel repairs.

That thought did occur to me except they don't supply that model of wheel anymore so no gain for them. Having done some searching I'm aware there's plenty been repaired but just wanting to check it's not a bodge job!

Yeah that's understandable, maybe try a reputable tyre fitters/ wheel refirbishers in your area they should be able to check it over

One of my rears has had a hell of a repair after the original owner hit a chunk of breeze block on a dark 60mph road when the car was only around a year old

The wheel was profesionally welded/repaired and still perfect 6 years later
My very reputable tyre fitter said it's fine

Think it was F1 alloys over in Cheshire that did the repair

Looks like a aliens hand inside my wheel

Don't forget VW are stupidly fussy and will say anything to scare you. They told me all sorts then when i went to see someone i can trust to which i was then told the areas vw pointed out are fine and that there is at least 2-4 years left before they need replacing.

If it hold air and no wheel wobble then whats the issue?

I see a few repaired alloys at work,if it's holds pressure and you have had no issues it will be fine.If you bought the car of the dealer's you could take the matter up with them as to why it was missed first time round

An older car I owned had a cracked inner rim I got it repaired and it passed four mots in the same garage same tester before he give me an advisory when I told him it had been done for years he removed the comment
As above if done correctly it should be stronger than the rest of the rim but keep an eye on it cracking right next to the weld as that's the most likely place it will go next
