When you scrape, what actually is it that scrapes?

Evening guys,

Just wondering, when a car so low it scrapes on speed bumps, what actually is it that's scraping, is it harmful? I don't mean the front bumper obviously.. I mean the actual underneath of the car?

I had  mate who hit his sump and engine blew up.

Another scraped his exhaust off.

Lay underneath and see what looks scuffed ???

I gave up on lowering cars so much that they scrape really un-practicle.

I guess the scrapping can vary from car to car

I scrape on front splitter and on a strengthening strut underneath. Nothing serious just take it slow and easy on bumps.

On either side there's plastic that is the lowest point on the car, or the front splitter. Unless you hear metal on concrete then you're probably fine

I never normally scrape as I go to a higher preset when approaching bumps, but today I din't select the preset properly so I scraped pretty bad for the first time so got a bit worried haha.

Defiantly won't be something that will happen regularly haha

When I scrape it's usually the underbody plastics or under the front splitter

Normally if it's a scrape it's plastic when it's a bang it's metal

Before my mk4 was on air everything used to scrape. The undertrays were ripped off, sump, chassis rails, exhaust, subframe etc had all taken a battering.

Normally i would think it will either be your backbox if you have a miltek (or similair) with a gaint suitcase or the subframe if you have removed the plastics from underneath.

Just becareful its not the sump, they are a nightmare to change!

I guess if any real damage was caused we just send the invoice for the repairs to the council, that's how it works right?

Good luck with the council, I wrote one of my wheels off on my RS on a pothole and they basically said "take us to court if you want your money"

I'm so glad my GTI is only down 30mm on H&Rs.

My old mk4 was right down on Weitec coils, adjusters out, chassis notch, the full works. And although it looked nice, I had more than one 'metal on road' moment.

It made driving so stressful!
