Advice needed on black inserts for Monza 2 refurb
« on: May 14, 2015, 09:25:43 am »
I'm getting my Monza 2 diamond cut alloys refurbed next week as they are in an awful state. However, I thought I would take the opportunity to have the inserts painted black instead of the current standard grey colour. I saw that someone had done it on this forum and thought it looked smart.

My question is what colour black do I need to ask for, is it just plain black or gloss black or something else ?

Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers guys    :happy2:

Hey, I had mine diamond cut last week with gloss black inserts. I didn't ask for any specific colour just gloss black. This is how they came out.

+ 1

More than a general refurb?

Its gonna cost £360-00 to have them diamond cut with black inserts. I bought another set of centre caps from ebay for a tenner and i'm paying another £15-00 per day (3 days) to have a courtesy car.

I suppose it does seem quite alot of money but in all honestly its much cheaper than buying new wheels, I love the diamond cut Monza 2 alloys on a GTi and I cant stand to drive the car at the moment cos the wheels are in shocking condition.

Its like wearing a lovely suit with battered old trainers. Ya just cant do it

I paid £440 for them to be done, he made sure it was really quick turn around as a courtesy car couldn't be provided. Same on the centre caps as mine were really bad pretty much the same as the wheels.
I got a quote from my local vw for brand new ones at £615 each!!!
It's really hard to show in a picture how amazing they actually look but have transformed my car. Worth every penny in my opinion  :happy2:

Mine have also been done in black still looking great after 2 1/2 years. Done @ A1 Wolverhampton. paid £80 a corner and they gave me spare wheels to run around on while they were done. Top service and well recommended. I mentioned this site and got a discount.

I have heard previously from this site that A1 Wolverhampton do excellent work but we are based in the southeast so its just too far unfortunately. Do you follow any sort of wheel after care routine to protect them from being ruined again ? Obviously avoiding curbs would be a start !! but other than that is there something else I should be doing ?

I think there's sealant you should apply on a regularish basis. If your in the south east I hear pristine wheels in Milton keyenes do an excellent job at $60 a corner. I think you should look into them, and then report back to me :)

Mine are in a terrible state and they have white worm..I'm wondering if there is a point beyond return in regard to damage and refurb as a possibility.

Cheers for the sealant advice i'll look into it. Milton Keynes is still a bit of a trek for us mate. It would be about a 3 hour round trip. The place we are using is only 20 minutes from my work which is really handy. Mind you i'd be really suprised if they could do a diamond cut finish for just 60 quid a corner. I don't know anywhere that offers it that cheap.

My wheels are pretty bad as well but I sent the wheel company pictures and they were confident the wheels would be returned as new so i'm sure your wheels could be sorted as well.

I'll try and put up before and after pictures of mine once they have been refurbed although i'm not too sure how to do that yet  :sad1:
