Ryans tornado red GTI
« on: May 16, 2015, 08:58:53 am »
Hey guys,  joined the forum a few weeks ago when I purchased my car! Not been able to do a lot but am itching to get going  so I'll start my thread now :D

I'm 22 and I'd say this is my first real car, (others where slow and boring). It's a 5 door mk5 GTI with 44000 on the clock,  2005 plate with one owner from new :)

Pretty basic spec, no cruise control, very basic stereo but I'm not too fussed as I'll be upgrading it along the way.

Have ordered the seat inserts and some mats from eBay, and will give a quick lost of things planned for the first few months.

Soo...

1. Will be doing the cam belt and water pump as no sign of it being done yet.

2. Getting a few panels re sprayed to get rid of some damage and a wheel refurd, all for mates rates from a good friend.

3. An android head unit has been a must for all of my cars to date.

4. I'd like to get a nice sounding induction kit on the go. (suggestions welcome)

5. Replace front and rear lights with something a bit more mean looking, been looking at dectane lights but again I'd love suggestions.

6. I have 2 blank buttons next to the ESP off, any cool ideas for a use of these?

7. Ooo nearly forgot, badge whiteworm galore! So need to do centre caps and rear badge, reliable source for a new badge?

As I said my first proper motor here and I'm going  to be doing a lot of learning along the way but really looking forward to it, will grab a few more pictures later.

Here's a few after a wash, autoglym super resin polish, and armorall sheild coating (brilliant stuff btw).

Some lovely beading from the armorall at the end,  highly recommend!

Booking in for Cambelt and waterpump this week, anyone know how much this should be on one of these?

Not a lot going on with it, did about 400 miles in it this weekend so first big session, car felt great!

Still waiting for some stainless seats inserts I ordered a month ago

Had a quote for both from my local vw garage for 499 and a vw specialist down my road for 450-500? Lol I really don't feel like I should be paying that much?

Had my seat inserts turn up after a month and a half...  Nice touch they are tho!

Absolutely skint after Cambelt which is annoying because all I want to do is buy stuff for the gti! Grrr

Finally got round to spending a bit of money and forked out for a forge Twintake from a fellow user on here, very exciting.

I'm guessing this might be a good time to change my diverter valve to an uprated one?

Also looking to get it remapped to revo or Apr stage 1 after fitting the twintake, does anybody know of anywhere in the Bournemouth / Poole area that come recommended in this?

Other than that not much to report but some hard driving and lots of cleaning :) but hopefully be doing a few bits up to Christmas.

On the agenda..

Bbs Vz 18 x 8s
Head unit
Remap
Drive like mad.

Not wanting to burst your bubble but I tried a couple of intakes on mine and found the OEM set up was better with stage 1.

In what way is that? :( did you get mapped to stage 1 with OEM set up or with an induction fitted? Thanks

I had mine stage 1 mapped at R-tech. Then i played with the ITG intake with different filters supplied by ITG and they all produced less torque so the car felt slower. Chatted to R-tech and they said the same and recommended going back to the OEM airbox with just a panel filter. My dyno figures are with the OEM airbox.

So I got my new Forge Twintake and quickly installed it. Wasn't to sure If I liked it at first it's louder than I thought but have since changed my mind after going for a hoon.

Finally got round to getting some little bits.

New mats from awesome gti as I hated my cheap ones.

Rev g DV

Cam follower

3m headlight restoration kit

Probably be trying to get a few bits for the car every week from now on or else I'll just keep looking and never get stuff done!

Quick pic of the intake, this is before I installed the bung for the DV port so no there isn't a hole in it!
