Hello everyone, I currently own a 2004 Mk5 Golf GT TDI in Reflex Silver.
Sadly I don't have many pics, after moving house and changing phones (Silly iOS...Should probably get an actual digital camera)
I've owned this car for getting on 3 years now and it's been a interesting series of events!
Some Facts and Figures ;
From Purchase -
2004 Golf Mk5 GT TDI, 140 BHP, BKD Engine. I picked it up on around 89,000 miles
Standard equipment was just;
Full leather heated interieor.
Heated but non folding side mirrors
Other than that it was quite the poverty spec but at the time I was trading up from a Mk4 1.4 16V Golf so this was more than enough to keep me happy!
Current Mod'sThe first mod that was carried out was a Caronio cold air intake down to behind the fog - I know air intakes don't really do much for TDI's but I like the sound it produces and my intake temps did drop a little and the car felt more responsive in my opinion so I was happy.
This is where the modding bug began.
Stage 1 Generic Map:It was then booked into the guys at Awesome GTI in Manchester for a generic stage 1 remap and EGR delete.
Didn't get it on the dyno at the time, but was assured that it would now be producing around 170-190 BHP, certainly feels more towards the higher end as I had a good lead over a friends BMW that was near new and produced 180 BHP from factory.
Milltek Turbo Back Non Res Exhaust:After this, it was time for a new exhaust system. I opted to go for the full Milltek turbo back non resonated setup, again from the guys at Awesome.
This certainly seemed to improve the performance of the car, I guess through a free flowing exhaust gases and the like, but probably not using it to its full extent due to only being a generic map. The noise produced is nice too, not too over the top, not as loud as some setups I've seen bolted to the likes of Corsa's and Saxo's around my area! But more refined and noticeable when really giving it the beans!
Whiteline Anti Lift Kit:This was fitted on a bit of whim, didn't really understand how it worked or how it would help but it certainly seemed to improve my cornering, gave me a bit more confidence.
The above mod's were all carried out in my 1st year of ownership, but nothing has really happened since then!
Present Plans:I've recently purchased the following, which are either on their way to be deliver or sat in my spare room!
VW Racing Front Anti Roll Bar
VW Racing Rear Anti Roll Bar
A series of new powerflex bushes for the front and engine inserts
Standard Golf GTI Front Brake setup
New Tarox drilled and grooved front discs
New Tarox front pads
Standard Golf GTI Rear Brake Setup
New Tarox drilled and grooved rear discs
New Tarox rear pads
18" Alloy wheels
I told myself I "Needed" these, could of gone with 17"s to clear the new brake upgrades but I told myself I needed the 18's instead!...Just don't tell the Mrs!
Future Plans:Thinking the next steps will be sorting out the rear bumper, it's a GTI valance on their at the moment, but it's in black. Perhaps a colour code but I keep changing my mind if the full colour code looks good or not!
I really fancy the highline clocks too with Polar FIS maybe!, but I guess I'd need a multi-function steering wheel for this too!
RNS or RCD headunit, got a aftermarket headunit in at the moment and while it looks ok, it doesn't really do it for me anymore!
