Made one. Cost about 3 quid

Seems a good idea but won't the magnetism pass through to the sump ? Where as the other plugs are insulated against the internal magnet. Will be interesting to see results

Good point...... might have to rethink  :signLOL:

Yeah.... might also dissipate the magnetic power as well, instead of it being concentrated on the "tip.

Just gonna buy a mag. plug. Then if it picks up some stuff ill drop the sump next service.

How can it possibly be insulated against magnetism?  Last time i checked my sump wasn't magnetic anyway so bit of an invalid argument  Home made magnetic sump plug does the job perfectly for a fraction of the posh one

Why not see how powerful the magnetism is at the tip of the bolt? Mine was pretty strong

Hardly an invalid argument, the fact I made an enquriey. Unfortunately I have neither a magnet or sump in my lounge to check, hence why I mention my thought.

If thats the case then great, I'll get some magnet and get them on the sump plug.

It should still work even if the sump is magnetised bits of metal held there will be flushed out when you drop the oil.
