A/C question
« on: May 18, 2015, 03:06:48 pm »
Can anyone tell me why my A/C doesn't seem to work at tick over, and why the A/C seems to mist up the windows at first?

So your A/C doesn't work when the engines on idle? Mine works as soon as the ignition is on. Mine does mist up slightly for the first 20 seconds or so but that's just a bit of moisture and is fine after.

That's right yeah. Start the car and wait 3 or 4 minutes with A/C running and the air temperature coming out the vents is barely cool. Within a mile of driving thd air from the vent is icy cold. When I come to a stop again the air from the vents warms up to barely chiiled. Have you any ideas?

I know that compressor failure is quite common and taking a while for the air to get cool is a sign of that. But maybe your A/C fan is broken or dying if you need to be moving for it to get cold, if you put the air con on LO and maximum fans can you hear the A/C fan? Mine sounds like a jet when on the lowest setting.

When you say the A/C fan do you mean the general heater fan? That seems to blow air really well but the air doesn't get cold until I'm moving.

I'll lift the bonnet after work and have a wee snoop about. Wish I had more mechanical knowlege :(

I have hardly any but if yours is like mine you can hear it from a mile away, its the same fan that comes on when the engines really hot.
