Xenon Bulb Replacement
« on: May 20, 2015, 01:13:43 pm »
One of my bulbs has started to turn a purple/pink colour, so i assume its on its way out.

Im going to buy a pair and change them both for peace of mind. I know its the D1s bulb, has anyone got any recommendations? Want it to be as close to OEM as possible but avoid the stealers

Also how easy is it to remove the bulbs? Is it plug and play? Or does the headlight as a whole unit need to come out?

Thanks,

Lewis

The bulbs are D2s. When I need to replace mine I'll get Osram Xenarc Night Breaker Unlimited. I think Amazon had the best price a couple of months ago.

Do xenon bulbs tend to last longer than standard halogen headlight bulbs?

I think so. Mine are all from factory (MY2008 and MY2009) still and I know other older Golfs (MY2006) with factory fitted bulbs as well. Of course the lifetime depends on the usage you give them.

Thats good to know was always put off having xenons as i was told they were costly to replace.

Potentially might have to buy new bulbs at one of my lights is out, I'll swap, them over tomorrow to confirm

There's a pair of night breakers on eBay for 65 , ebay number 271858640707. Seems cheap, could they be fake?

You'd be better buying from a reputable bulb supplier site, or at least a seller with good feedback.. I bought this pair from ebay, and the boxes have a serial number you can validate for authenticity on the philips website:

VCDS Hex-USB +CAN (Central Scotland)

Cheers looks like the issue is do with wiring rather than bulbs but I'll bare this in mind for future reference
