Wing arch repair cost!
« on: May 22, 2015, 09:40:27 am »
I took my Golf into VW in St.Albans for them to take a look at the flaking paint inside the front off-side arch, it's not rusting but starting to flake off and will only get worse.

They got back to me and said they'd be prepared to go 50/50 on the cost with me.

£360?!?! So the full cost is £720!?!??! For one fecking wing.

As they're admitted liability somewhat and paying half of it is it worth me pushing it further and aiming for them to pay all of it? Has anyone had experience of this?

Cheers, Andy.

You can get a wing and painted to spec delivered on ebay for about a tonne... Fitting doesn't look too hard.  Although if you've got a lighter colour it may require some blending.... Still 720 a wing is :rolleye:

As Scottyman said there is someone selling painted wings on ebay for £110. Changing is quite easy too. Would have done that a year ago but I had both mine replaced, full ed30 kit fitted and painted and local body shop charged me £550 for everything.

After some whining from me VW eventually got back to me and said they'd do it for free, either re-spray or replace. Thank you very much........... :happy2:

My car went into VW last week for an unrelated problem and whilst it was there I was informed that I have some bubbling on the edge of both front wheel arches, which is common in cars of similar age. You can only see it if you're looking for it it's that minor.  They put in a warranty claim to VW without me even asking them to and VW have honoured it and they're getting replaced next week.  There's a ten year warranty on bodywork so I'm not sure how they thought they'd be able to charge you 50% to start with! Glad they've agreed to doing it free of charge now though!

Just call and make an appointment, they'll put you in touch with the warrant guys there. Seems like if you make it clear you're not budging then they will get it done for you, they guys I dealt with tried to wriggle out of it at first but then came back and admitted responsibility and to their credit did a GREAT job too.
