HELP WITH DSG!
« on: May 22, 2015, 04:10:16 pm »
Half way down to Peterborough (from Doncaster)
Had a clunk between 5th and 6th all my gear display started flashing. Turned car off and on and went another few miles usuing all gears then down to 4th and back up to 5th then exact same happened going from 5th to 6th.

I'm sat at side of a1 now. Got gears back but engine management light is still on.
I'm guessing it's the Mechatronics unit?
And am I safe to limp home in first 5 gears then get it sorted or do I need recovering?

Any help would be great I'm guessing the Mechatronics is gunna be hundreds if not more? Where do I stand with vw warranty seen as though these are a common problem?

Could be talking thousands, VW may offer s contribution but that will depend where you got the car, service history etc.

Depending on what's actually wrong with it there are companies that can repair them, VW just remove and replace. Then you're probably talking hundreds. Would have labour costs to remove and then replace when it's back with an oil change and obviously the cost of the company to repair it.

Good luck mate, hope it's nothing to serious.

Is there a recall on these? There's so much about them on the web (probably because they're so common for failing) I'm struggling to find out if there is.
Thanks for your help though buddy even if it isn't what I wanted to hear :(

Do you know when the dsg service was done? If vw give you a massive bill for the mechatronic unit you can get it from somewhere like BBA Reman and get someone to fit it like AKS Tuning.

There's no record of the dsg being serviced.
I called vw couple of weeks ago to get a price and when I could book it in.
So I'm going to have to pay for all of it out my own pocket..
Should probably plug on to it when I get home see what codes I have then start ringing around see if anybody knows the exact fault I have

I've been looking at DSG mk5s but I don't think I would sleep at night knowing there is a £2000 bill round the corner, as most likely I will end up with 100k+ one
