Orbital Polisher Newbie

Thanks dan. I have seen the VRG for £281.40 delivered. Just the machine/backing plate. So i'm leaning towards that at the moment. Its a pity none of the pads i have will work on these bigger machines.

Wow that's a really good price, just spoke to my boss and he said we can't match that so I'd go for it. Even after buying a couple of pads and compounds its £100 odd less than the Rupes. Like I said I've heard good stuff and know for a fact their rotary machines are really good so I reckon you'll get some good results.

I will add it to my wishlist i found one on eBay for £259.17 delivered. Euro sellers are doing a bit better these days as the euro is weak. Can u recommend a good set of pads and some polish for this?

Good machines.
They are forced drive dual action polishers.
I personally prefer a rotary,  we use flex pe14-2-150s
Rupes are good and so are those flex vrgs
 The rupes are random orbital da which will slow down or stop spinning if you angle it as such.  They have a bigger throw which is good for larger panels.  Annoying on smaller ones. Id get the flex vrg personally but i think dan rates the rupes very highly  :) he uses them a lot more , ive never used a rupes myself.

Yes mate with either a rupes or a flex vrg you will get better results with a das6 pro. Which arent bad machines just quite vibratey.

I would recommend starting with a green hexlogic pad (heavy cutting) and some Rupes UHS polish.

Then finish off with a black hexlogic pad (finishing) and some Sonax profiline perfect finish.

With the UHS makes sure its thouroughly spread otherwise it can fling a bit especially on curved panels but it doesn't dust because its more watery. With the Sonax its goes a long way so you don't need much and you will go through a few cloths buffing it off because its quite thick and taccy but does an excellent job so its worth it.

I didn't get around to buying the new polisher yet. Its on my rather long wanted list.

Went camping for the weekend and had some rather nasty bird poo spots on the car. Got them off as soon as i got home but one of them has marked the paint at certain angles i can see where the bird poo was. Also a lot of water spots are developing. I apply wax or sealant every few weeks so surely this should stop the bird poo/watermarks??

Any protection products you guys can recommend for the higher temps over here?

Can someone point me in the right direction for pads for the FLEX XC 3401 VRG Positive Drive Orbital Polisher.

I bought the wrong size lol

Checking the specs

Velcro pad   150 mm or 5.9 inches

I bought two 6 inch pads and they are two small.

I contacted the seller i bought the pads from they can exchange for Rupes 180mm pads.

Will these be ok or should i get a refund? @dansmith180

I think the problem is the face on those pads will be 6" but the backing part is 5". Same with the Rupes pads as they're a cone shape so a 6" pad has a 5" backing and the 7" has a 6" backing.

The 180mm rupes pads should be fine but i would look at the Lake Country 6.5" pads as they're more similar to what you've purchased and there's more to choose from.

I'm also looking for a new wax i've been using dodo juice supernatural wax. Thinking maybe a liquid that i can apply with the polisher?

I would use a yellow one with the UHS and a black one with the Sonax. Wax wise it depends what you want,, if you're after gloss then machine applicated sealants such as Wolfgang deep gloss paint sealant and Chemical guys Blacklight are fantastic. If you're after longevity however they're not great really, I would stick with Bilt Hamber speed wax or any Collinite wax
