So, had a call from the dealers.  Car's done, dusted, ready for collection... Good and bad news (sort of).

They say noise has gone, nice and quiet... But the air-con is still not as it should be.  They replaced the high pressure valve, still the same.

SO... they reckon it's the compressor, they have ordered a new one and will fit it next week.

So I can collect now and start enjoying it.

All in all, I am happy enough as now it will have had a new chain, tensioner and adjuster and also new A/C compressor etc, glad I didn't have to foot the bill.

Now to pick it up..... and start the usual updating/modding....  :signLOL:

So all is done and I am happy with the car, pulls very well indeed.  Still going to check the DV though :)

Anyway,

Noise before -

Noise after -

Not sure it shows on here but the difference is absolute night and day, quiet as a pin in the cabin now.

I've just recently brought a 07 gti and mine is the same quiet when cold apart from the ticking, then when warm diesel like sound!!
Like yourself can hear it in the cabin when car is up to temp.

It's going into a Vw independent on Monday I reckon like you it's the chain as the cam follower and shaft where done about 20k ago.

Yeah it's a bit of a bummer really, hopefully won't be too much money! - Usually the chain and tensioner do it and are cheap enough, if the adjuster needs changing then that's the big money part.  Thankfully all mine was done under warranty.  :happy2:

Any idea what the costs might be on something like this? I'll be changing my follower soon but I'm just thinking if the chain and tensioner need doing might aswell do it in one go

To be honest if it's not causing an issue might be ok to leave it until it does..  If it is making a noise then the price can be changed big time if the adjuster needs changing (think this is a £250+ part)..  The kit with the tensioner and chain is around £150 odd+ then you have the labour of 3 to 4 hours.  Could end up being expensive  :fighting:

What does the AC compressor have to do with the steering creaking? I've read this a few times on here, can anyone explain how they're related?

They're not lol, basically when I started this thread it was due to the knocking noise (cam chain) and then I added a few more issues like aircon not working and the steering creaking.  All of which now are sorted  :happy2:

If you can, find out the total price of all parts for the camshaft adjuster and what parts they changed (e.g. new camshaft chain needed?)
