So i have my next DIY. Don't like working on the beater but cant afford to pay someone to do it, will probably cost more than the car.

Been reading the haynes manual (Ford Galaxy) (removal of the transmission in place is an involved task. For the small amount of extra work involved it may be prudent to remove the engine and transmission as a complete assembly??)

To remove the gearbox only is says i will need engine hoist and gearbox jack. Would this be possible with a couple of jacks?? Remember car will be on axle stands.

From seeing my mechanic removing my GT Sport gearbox and clutch when I upgraded to a Sachs Performance clutch, you'll need another person to help you. One controls the engine hoist and helps from above the engine bay while the other holds the box till it reaches the ground. Something like it.

Done a bit of work on the beater recently changed the injector pump gasket as its been leaking for years.

Decided to change the thermostat as the gauge has never got above a quarter in the 5 years i've owned it.  :ashamed:

After changing the thermostat there was a leak when the needle got to 90 so i replaced the thermostat o ring again  :rolleye: (should have more faith in my diy skills.)

Then i found this.

I've also changed the temp sensor. The car is warming up now but the needle floats above the half way mark. VCDC shows a temp of 92.7ยบ. Is it normal on older cars for the temp needle not to stay put?

A neighbour has agreed to let me borrow their garage to park the golf while i have a look at the clutch on the beater.

Don't know if i should order a complete kit dmf, clutch and slave cylinder or take it off and have a gander first?

How are you going to bolt the flywheel on with it all assembled like that?

The bolts are already in there and the fingers have holes where the bolts are.

I've made a start its not easy as i have no idea what i'm doing. More info is available on the mk2.

Gearbox mount was a pita to remove.

As its suspended from a plate beneath the battery tray.

Well done as always Dazza on your DIY skills and your fearless attitude  :happy2:

Refitting will be a bitch and will take two people cause on your own it would be easier wining the lottery.

The slave seal may need protecting or the little rubber oring could go missing if it's the type I'm thinking also bleeding of the slave should be kept in mind before refitting everything as new items can come faulty.

Thanks mate!

The luk kit says to throw the oring and use loctite 5980??

I will have to try and get it in on my own now.  :stupid: A mate has offered to help when i fail.

I suppose i could connect and bleed it when its still on the jack??

After a massive effort today its all finished. I also replaced both inner cv boots and the ARB drop links.

Gear changes are smooth with a nice high biting point.

Don't work on a car if you are tired i went for a test spin around the block. When i got back i remembered the wheel nut bolts and main drive shaft bolts were only hand tight. I forgot about it after filling the transmission. muppet.
