Got in my car tonight and noticed the RNS 510s buttons weren't illuminated so I tried turning the lights back off and on keys in and our and it got me nowhere is thus a common fault with an easy fix or us my unit buggered?

Yes everything seems to work, no not recently probably about 3 months ago but all has been fine till now.

the car sends a signal to switch the illumination Terninal 58D

Does your RNS have Test / Development mode (press and hold SETUP for about 30 seconds)
I think if you go into there and select CAN it should show you if the RNS is receiving the signal
