Newb From Devon!
« on: May 29, 2015, 10:22:56 pm »
Okay, Hi all

Since trading in the wife's Cooper S and my loathsome Corsa for a 5 door Mk5 Gti nearly four years ago I feel rather guilty that I have never posted a single thing on this superb forum. I could blame the arrival of children into my life for the social retardation but that would just be a lame excuse. Anyways, I must thank all you regulars on here for the superb information and guidance that has enabled me to transform what was a superb (family) car into the 277bhp (rtech) stage 2+ beast that I (and my wife) enjoy driving to this day without making a single post. As a complete technophobe I will attempt to add my current build status and future plans (including images). For those of you who are from Exeter or Devon a big oooh arrrr to you all.
PS How the fook do I add images on here?

Hey,

Cheers all for the olla's and advise on where, what and how to do things on here.
I'll be sorting out the build thread and images shortly. Also got a few bits to sell, (Forge DV anyone?) which I'll post in the appropriate section.

Anyways I better get to stewing over the failed MOT phone call I just got from a decent tyre fitters here in Exeter who have started doing MOT's. Apparently the offside CV boot is split, oh and it'll be £120 to replace (which they can do today). Over a barrel but what do you do? I did chuckle at the advisory. "Your exhaust says track use only" No sh*t Sherlock it's road legal and within limits….

There's a lesson here somewhere… Use these guys for tires (they are very careful with your alloys which I like) but don't think
that because they call you saying that now they do MOT's for only £25 that your going to get a quick, cheap pass.

Maybe the boot was split before or maybe its split this morning in the workshop.. Call me cynical but I wonder sometimes… Grrr
Rant over.. :rolleye:

I always take my cars to one of the VOSA centres. You should have one up by you somewhere. They aren't a garage, purely do MOT's and have absolutely no 'incentive' to fail you.

Cheers, apparently they're pretty rare. I love um but you've got no chance of turning around to sort the kids out! My gti rolls with two kids seats!

Cheers Jason, yours is looking spotless! Mine topped 60k the other week on a trip up to r-tech which isn't bad for an 06 plate! I'll be looking out for you now I've got your reg.
