New 55 plate GTI
« on: May 28, 2015, 06:58:38 pm »
Hi All,

Just wanted to say hello.

I've been looking at a Mk5 GTI for a while now and finally decieded to shop in my 13 plate Vauxhall Corsa for one 3 weeks ago.

I went for a 55 plate Black 5 door DSG with cloth interior and 70k on the clock, I've had to have both rear rotors and pads and one rear Caliper replaced and I've got it in for a cambelt change next week. The work has cost more than I'd have hoped for but it really is worth it when you get in it and go for a drive

Rear calipers are rubbish on these cars, it's quite a common part to get replaced.

Have a quick read up on the DV, PCV, and cam follower - they are also worth renewing as they wear very easily and can affect performance.

Also get the water pump done while the belt's being replaced.

Enjoy the car, and welcome to the forum :-)

I've read that about the calipers, the other side was replaced in 2011 by the previous owner.

I was planning to get the the cam follower and water pump changed witht he belt but I knew nothing about the DV and PCV, Cheers for the heads up.

Thanks mate

I've been having a look the last few days and it looks easy enough just need some decent axle stands. The How to section on the forum is brilliant to be fair everything is on there.

Cheers
