Sloppy gears?
« on: May 31, 2015, 01:39:58 pm »
Hi guys

Can people please review my video below and let me know if this is normal. I have a feeling bushes are worn somewhere. If so can you let me know the part numbers or post a link to solve this. I realise a quickshift will help also.

Yeah, mine's like that, I changed the Gearlinkage bushes to no effect.. I think it's something snapped around the gearstick, I'm almost sure I read someone had changed a plastic bit out and it fixed the issue, but I never got around to doing it - I'll have a look for the post, unless someone else can find it..?

I new something wasn't right. I have been looking through the the forum at the quickshift said and bushes to buy and it's a bit of a minefield to be honest. I'm a bit stumped.

That is exactly the same issue I had with my 57 plate 6sp manual, but when the engine was running the box would block 1st gear and I would have to re try, sometimes going into second then in to first. On mine is was end float issue in the gear box.   The specialist i used took the box off, and took it to a gearbox specialist who shimmed for end-float issue, cleaned and polished selector forks. They replaced the gearbox selector bracket, shoe and clip along with clutch and flywheel. See my other thread...   http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,97806.msg966230.html#msg966230

The other option could be that the garage did think was to rebuild the bear linkage under the gear leaver.   I would suggest take it to a specialist you trust and know their work before trying to self diagnose.

So I had a punt on the recommended part. I thought it was worth a shot for only £2.85.

I opened the gearstick panel and this is how everything looks

I don't think the part is the problem. From what I can see it's the white plastic part to the left being to loose in the metal bracket, as seen in the video below. I am happy to be told wrong. What you guys think?
