Thanks for sharing - maybe there should be a section in the forum for articles/press/media about the mk5? That way we can catalogue all the posts/articles in one section and easy for everyone to find/read.

We could even chuck original adverts from VW etc? Basically any press/media related stuff.

Thoughts?

I do like the GTI5, and considering its mileage 155k, it still feels tight, handles and goes as well as much more modern metal.

Great link
Great idea about media section

Suprised this thread hasn't had more replies from the GTI lovers on here

The comment about the mk5 still being 70% of everything the mk7 is really does reiterate just how much of a bargain the mk5 Gti now is

I honestly believe that it is a future classic in the making and good honest examples will always fetch strong money

GTI reborn after all
In comparison to the mk3/mk4 it was a revolution

My mate had a mk4 Gti 2.0 non turbo 113bhp when they were quite new and I used to run rings round him in my 1995 corsa 1.4 sport
Awful Golf that thing

The article just reiterates what we all know and love about the mk5!

I actually think the mk4 was bashed a bit too much in the press/forums. Yes, as standard it was anything but a real hot hatch, and certain models like the 2.0 should never have worn a GTI badge, but for kit and refinement you could do far worse. Plus with some well chosen suspension mods and a map on the ko3s cars they became a solid, enjoyable car.

But anyway, the mk5 GTI is indeed a league above. VW were forced to raise their game and they did it right.

And it's good to see them continuing to take the hot sector seriously now, with the mk6 R, all the concepts, and now we're looking at a 400bhp Golf ready for production.

We've never had it so good. Onwards and upwards!

Only the UK got that awful 2.0 MK4 badged as a GTI, because VW knew they'd get away with it here.

I noticed no improvement in perceived cabin quality going from a MK4 R32 to an Edition 30.   I think the money was spent improving the chassis instead where the MK5 is concerned, which is no bad thing.

Defo a future classic, when I sell mine maybes this year i can see myself buying another one in years to come when I'm a old fart, it's a shame but by then I bet it'll be so hard to find a nice standard unmodified one. Well I'm all for mods such as intake/exhaust/coilovers etc but I bet by then most have had all that rubbish done to them. Vw did a great job with the mk5.
