Well, now i've done some kilometers on the Toyo R1R (225/40-18) and they are growing on me, the noise is actually not that bad, the grip is more than excellent, and no problems in the wet so far, even with standing water.
So all in all i will give it 9 out of 10 for being oversteer inducing, grippy as h***, compared to the normal ultra high performance tire. And acceptable road noise.  :happy2:

I have just fitted the Kuhmo V70a Hard compound tyre and the cornering grip is excellent the side walls are alot better than standard road tyres, noise isnt a problem and under braking there not squimish what so ever unlike the last tyres i had on which would roll on to the sidewalls :scared:. Out and out grip is better but still can get the tyres to slip in 2nd.

Done about 270miles on them so far.

They have now done 2k kilometers to and from the ring along with 9 laps on the ring, 37 psi to and from 30 psi on the ring, showed a nice even wear and was able to compensate for driver errors as i was new to the ring. and i didn't hold back at all when driving the ring, quoting Nikolaj from BN Autoteknik who was my co pilot; " if this was my car i wouldn't drive in through the caroussel like this!!"   :jumping:
Why mod it if not to use it right???  :innocent:

In all they get a very big thumbs up from me  :happy2:

I use Dunlop D01J's.....old VW Cup tyres I managed to get from Shaun Hollamby.

Brilliant track tyres....better wearingt than R888's and A0032/48 Yoks.

I've used these for about 10 years now and they give a good combo of grip v wear.

I'm now running these on my MK2 16V on 15" wheels...interested to see how much a new set will be!

Maybe on the too do list: APR Stage 2+, KW Clubsports, Brakes, Diff.

I'm also happy with my V70a k90 on 225/45/17 but in the future I'd like to go for 245/40/17. Now, there are several problems :

1) 225 go on my OEM denvers (7.5'' rim) wich is also the recommended width. For the 245, the say the minimum would be 8'' but recommended is 8.5''. 8''x17 rims are common but 8.5''x17 not so much and more for the japanese cars. Is it any danger on running a 245 R-compound on 8'' rim and a very heavy car ?
2) OEM denvers have an ET of 51. Wich ET would be best for 245 in order to avoid fender rubbing on the outside and damper rubbing on the inside ? Don't want to mod the fenders and as you can see in the sig I have B16 + large sway-bars so the car doesn't lean too much.

On a side note, If I'll have to raise the car in order to avoid fender rubbing, I might be loosing negative camber wich may take away some/all of the benefit of using larger tires !?!?

No, there isn't any danger.   :wink:
You just won't get all of the benefit of the wider tyres if you fit them on a not-so-wide rim.

Don't want to mod the fenders and as you can see in the sig I have B16 + large sway-bars
so the car doesn't lean too much.


There's not much 'play' if you decide to run wider tyres. With 245 mm wide tyres and ET45
rims the wheel archs will rub I guess. With ET larger than 50 the tyres will touch the fat
Bilstein strut.
My personal conclusion of speaking to many many boys who tried out: you should make
your decision between ET48 and ET50 or even better go for smaller tyres.

I'd recommend 235/40 on a 8x18 BBS CH or a 8x18 Ultraleggera or Allegrita  or if you prefer
17" then 235/40 R17 on a 8.0" or even 8.5" wide rim with an offset between ET45 and ET50.



On a side note, If I'll have to raise the car in order to avoid fender rubbing, I might be loosing

This depends on many factors, so I'm not keen enough to promise. If you go too wide and have
to lift too much the effect will be negative of course. But I guess lifting will not prevent for rubbing
on arch/tyre.

My summer road wheels are 8.5''x19 ET46 with 235/35/19 tires and don't have any fender rubbing at all. With the new wheels I'd have the same rim with 8.5'' and ET46n but the tire would go from 235 to 245. When I'll put my summer wheels on, I'll see how much room I have left on the inside and outside !

After fitting your TT arms, the front wheels are are coming more towards the fender. So you might have to take that into consideration also.

Hi,I found a set of 235/45/17 Yoko A048 in very good price.
The overall diameter is 2% bigger  than 225/40/18 tires
Will I have fender rubbing on Denvers 17 (et51)?
I run -1.7 camber front.

Any ARB on the front? How high is your car in comparison to stock height?
It also depends where you are traveling... On Nurburgring it might rub. On a smooth track I think it should not rub.

Eibach ARB on front,about 2 cm lowering.
The circuits in Greece are small and quite tight...

Just changed from A048s to DZ03Gs on the clutter, they're a marked improvement. I did all day at Oulton and have barely took the shine off them.

Still not as good as the PS Cups though.

Niki, 235 will normally be no problem with ET51.
But you have the TT arms. I presume it will depend on the
camber adjustment of the arms cos a more of camber causes
a wider track.

Yeah, unscientific but I just like the PS Cups more. They're very stable lap after lap and they have the best feedback.... all in my opinion obviously.

I'd rate these a good 2nd though, then the A048s then 888s at the bottom.
