Thanx Tony.

Most Ring guys rate the 03G as the best.
But I can get the PS Cup much cheaper than the Direzza.
Hard decision, but I have to make it when my 595 RS-R are worn
in a few months.

Another plus for the PSCup is they work well in the rain and you can rotate wheels to maximise wear, as they're not directional.

how about these for track day tyres

Federal 595RS-R track day tyres

They re £50 a tyre cheaper than R888s and googling them has resulted in finding quite alot of threads with people whpo used to use R888s and say these are nearly as good in the dry and better in the wet.

Apparently they are loud, but so are the R888s.

Few people I know swear by them, epic value for money.

Thinking broadly, you're not racing so being a 10th faster a lap doesn't matter, all you're looking for is good grip and something that is capable of dealing with heat rather than de-laminating, going greasy etc etc... These do the job well.

They've got a touch more tread depth, they wear slower - you're quids in! Pretty sure a few race series use them as control tyres now, MX5s certainly do.

Sideways yo!

Think you have a fair point there as well.  Why bother with £150 R888s, im not after ultimate performance, just good grip, good value and a semi good wear rate.

Similar tread pattern to toyo T1Rs so shouldnt be to bad in the wet for dispersing water.

I know some people using them and I have them for exactly one year.
Hope yours don't have the splicing problem.

You run 255/40?  :surprised:

Grip in the dry isn't as good as with R888, but far better than with any
regular street tyre and as well as the Hankook R-S2.
I have no direct comparison with true semi slick in the wet, but the RS-R
is not as grippy in the wet as standard street like Conti or Pirelli P Zero.
So be careful in the wet. And yes - it's noisy.

ps:
mine (purchased in Germany) are road legal

If you're enjoying yourself on a trackday who cares about the noise?

And if you're driving to and from a trackday with them on (assuming legal in the UK) then that doesn't matter either does it?

£50 per tyre cheaper than R888s.  for mine the Federals are £97, and R888s are £147+

thats a saving of £200 per set, so for a trackday tyre which is merely there to be destroyed, i think this could be a no brainer

Any R/list 1B/E-marked rated tyre is road legal.

Cut slicks and wets you'd be strung up by the nads though!

Silverstone FTZ Type RRs are worth a look too.

R888s used to be good because they were cheap, now there's better for R888 money but in their old price bracket there's plenty of good tyres that do you very well on track.

Again, it's not racing, you just want something that works for your budget  :happy2:

My Dirreaza's sound like a ice lolly in your spokes at 20 MPH. But i wouldn't swap the sound for anything it is music to the petrol dipped ears.  :driver:
