My French is a little rusty, but the FWD test was very interesting... especially as I've just bought some AD08s to try  :happy2:

Not had chance yet, but will give a full review as soon as I do. I don't expect them to be as good as my favoured PSCups or DZ03Gs, but at half the price I'll be happy at 90% of the performance.

A friend runs them on his 2.0T 4motion MKIV track car and rates them very highly.

Mike... my bro ran those on his RS200 for a while on track (and now are his road tyres) and he rates them very highly. They are never going to grip like R888s, but for the money.....  :party:

Ive still yet to use my a048s..... one day.  :innocent:

I've heard only good things of them. Of course they're not in the league of A048/A050, PSC or 03Gs,
but they also handle rainy weather very well and last longer. Refer to Car & Driver on page 10 and
the French test above.
Tony, where did you get them? Half the price of PSCs or half the price of 03Gs?

DZ03G £280 source Demon Tweeks

Feedback from my friend Alessio: 350BHP 2.0TFSI MKIV Golf 4 motion. 4 track days and 3000 road miles, half worn. Not quite as much grip as the best semi slicks, but lots better than any road tyre and much better in the wet than semis.

So, seems to mirror my thoughts. Not quite as good as a DZ03G/PSC but as good (if not better) than an R888, lasts longer and much cheaper.

Just been looking into the new EU wet weather tyre ratings for semi slick tyres.

"A" being the highest "G" being the lowest.

I had expected them to all be rated lower than that and i definitely expected the R888 to be marked lower than the other options above.

R888 225/40/R18 have a Wet Weather Rating of B
R1R225/40/R18 have a Wet Weather B rating. 
Michelin PSS 225/40/R18 have a Wet Weather B rating. 
Yokohama Advan Neova AD08 225/40/R18 have a Wet Weather B rating. 

If these are able to get a B wet weather rating surely the grading system isnt setup right.

I agree that doesn't sound right as the Dunlop Winter Sport 4D's I have recently put on the GTD has a Wet Grip rating of E according to Camskill.

Up to 70mph the R888's still knock the socks off most normal tyres for grip in the wet. It is only if there is any standing water that you have to be careful and even then they aren't that bad. I'd say the R1R's are an all round better bet in the wet, so why they are both B rated I'll never know!

Steve have you activated the XDS on your GTD? found out on another forum that all Feb/ March 2010 onwards golfs, sciroccos etc have it as standard and just needs activating with VCDS  :happy2:

how does the above track road legal tyres compare to road performance tyres such as conti sports 5 or goodyear assymetrics as far as grip and longevity is concerned? I will be shopping for new tyres shortly and wonder which one will be better??

Have/had Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 1 and 2 (street tires) and Kumho v70a and Dunlop Direzza 03G (semi slicks) so I can only compare these 4. I have used the street tires on track also:
1. If you need an all rounder F1 Asymmetric 1 is ok. It is more responsive than Asymmetric 2 and I like it better for track/fast road use. This tire is ok if you visit tracks like Nurburgring.
2. If you can afford to, buy both a semislick and a road tire. The semislick are far better than the normal road tire on a track that has very good grip.
Concerning longevity, I was really surprised of how well the Asymmetric 1 behaved. As long as you are not killing the car (mostly with heavy understeer) it should be ok.
