dashworth:
gents, i really need some help......

Ive now discovered my first major issue. having been on the phone with miltek for the past hour about a decat exaust inc. downpipe etc... maybe you could help?

Supposedly a miltek decat exaust on my diesel will still let it pass on emisions and a 'smoke test' for an mot/service

I want to buy a full downpipe decat sports exaust. SURELY THIS WILL FAIL AN MOT???
After thinking about it, I phoned miltek back to equire how they could garantee it would pass... the gentlemen on the phone said that on all the diesel cars the exaust was tested on passed an mot/service without needing a cat but could not garantee me 100% that my own car would pass these tests....
my major issue now is weather i can justify spending £500+ on putting a decat sports exaust on the car and then have it fail an mot/service when it comes round to it?
can you lot help me?

i dont know if this helps but my car is:

1.9TDI
106BHP
got 41000 on the clock
any other infor you might need to insure that i 'pass' with a decat exaust?

any help is apprecaited

Suggest you keep hold of the original cat and downpipe.  If for some reason it fails MOT on emissions you can always swap over the exhaust temporarily.

I realise this is not an ideal situation...but its the best fail safe solution.

Alexander:
from my experience with tuning diesel landys you should be fine on emissions as there is no rule that requires a diesel to have a cat.
However I'm not up to spec on the more modern systems used by VW. I would say if you are running standard ie no map then you should be fine but you may run into problems when turning up the fueling.

....

Yes, I think it's as Alexander implies: If you do some tuning mods such as turning up the fuelling, you might then fail. In fairness you can't expect Milltek to guarantee their product will pass emissions if you then do something independently beyond their control and that's all that Milltek are saying to you - They are only covering their arses.

You'll be fine. There is no emissions test on the diesel as there is for a petrol engine. The only test carried out on a diesel is a visable smoke test. As long as the car doesn't smoke excessively, you'll be fine.
