Depo Xenon Style headlights....
« on: June 14, 2015, 12:56:41 am »
Hi all,

Just after some advice

Iv just purchased and installed the Depo style projector headlights and noticed condensation towards the bottom of the headlights on both.

Has/does anybody experienced this and is it likely to be an occurring situation?
Thoughts please  :surprised:

From what I can tell it happens on these and even OEM Xenons. The problem is a lot of people are told by others to "seal the lights up tight" using grommets etc but in reality that's the wrong thing to do. Air flow will keep them clear. My old car had OEM Xenons and they misted as one of the air vents was blocked, after I cleared it there was no more condensation.
If you seal them up air tight they will act like any old window with an internal/external temp differential and in turn cause condensation.

Edit: I understand people use Silica Gel packs to keep them clear too which is a good idea.

I had this same problem when I had these lights, I took the cap off the back for a couple of days until it had cleared and then popped a couple of the silica packs in and it never returned  :happy2:

Yeh I took the caps off yesterday with all lights and engine running and after about 10mins condensation had disappeared.

But within a couple of hours, it started to appear agen.

Really need this to be cleared and sorted....might try having the caps off for a couple of days and see whether it makes a difference.

Also checked this morning and no condensation...see how long it lasts :-/

I got this on my driver's side, it would only come when I washed the car then it would disappear after 24-36 hours. I found a simple fix only and it hasn't come back ever since.
I simply took the cover off the back of the light, left the engine and lights running, bull beam included with a towel over the headlights. I left it like this for a good 15 minutes and this caused them to heat up enough for it to clear. I then left the rear cap off for a day or two and then put it back on and it's been fine ever since

That's my OEM xenon after retrofitting. I had the main rear cover installed but didn't the smaller rubber grommet for the indicator bulbs. After getting the grommet installed this went away after a day.

Are these the right ones? The sidelights are along the bottom strip like genuine Xenons too?

Yes mate they are the right ones although I ordered my Depo ones from ultimate styling on Thursday and received them Friday :-) then received a txt from body-kit.co.uk saying ther back in stock. Body kit UK would've been another supplier I would've bort from as they confirmed over the phone that they are Depo's!

Update: no condensation today at Day 2 of my fitted depo's...(fingers still crossed)

I am also getting my HID's installed on Tuesday (hopefully) where the main headlight cover will be drilled to allow the wire to come through for the ballasts - do you think this will help the condensation or would I be making matters worse? I.e is it better to have them covered fully or not

Thanks

From my experience I would use a 22mm hole saw to take out the centre of the cap. The HID kit will have a grommet to go around this hole.

Best to keep it sealed off to stop any dead flys laying in the areas where you can't get them out again.

But if the condensation comes back the silica gel would be your best bet.
