MK5 GTi/Edition 30 tartan/plaid interlagos material
« on: June 16, 2015, 06:54:07 pm »
Little bit of a feeler so not sure if Iv posted in the right bit so sorry if Iv done wrong

After posting about my retrim I get regular requests of where I got the tartan from and can I get people some for their projects. I genuinely think I got the last "as new" material left - it took me a long long time to find it!!

Iv made a contact with a company that claim they could reproduce the tartan to spec and quality and want to explore commissioning some. The big question is what is it worth a metre?  Obviously the more I commission the less it will cost per metre.

So my question is what would people think is fair per metre? As a reference MK6 plaid is approx £45 a metre but there is an abundant supply. When MK5 plaid has come up the asking price per metre is anywhere from £100 - £250 depending on how much of a tool the person selling it is. Even at £250 a metre that sold fairly quickly!!

Any thoughts/interest would be great  :happy2:

hard to say as most people including me wouldn't have a clue what a metre would cover , would a meter do both front seats ? , replacing what's on there or would a meter replace front and back ?

don't thing I'd pay £100 to do one front but think I'd pay £100 for both fronts maybe £200 per meter if a meter covered front and back

I don't mean the whole seat just in place of where the plaid is standard

£100 a meter would be fair then maybe a little more but I think £150 would be tops

100quid a meter for bespoke fabric is pretty good.

When I was searching I found an example that was printed on fabric which looked ok, at best, from a distance. The legit stuff has a 3D weave to it and really needs to be done right to look good.
I'm going to send off a sample of what I have left and see what they come back with. If it's any good I'll explore costs with them and see what happens. Hopefully it'll be under £150 a metre.
Any opinions more than welcome  :happy2:

I had 5 metres of it. 2 metres went into my wingbacks and rear bench. Im keeping a metre incase of damage and the other two metres I was made an offer I simply couldn't say no to
