I'll keep posting pictures and stuff... Leaving to go and get the bottom end in an hour.

Are there any recommendations as to where to get parts from?

I've been looking at prices and stuff, I don't fancy throwing the cheap stuff on but on the other hand my budget it shrinking.

I was thinking:

Genuine water pump
Continental cambelt kit
Thermostat - GSF or Euro car parts
Head gasket kit and head bolts - Not sure where to get them from yet

Nice did u get the top piece for the belt cover? I've just replaced my one piece with a two piece cover which should make my next cam belt change slightly easier.

I wouldn't it's worth looking for the cover as two pieces if your keeping the car!

I think I've only kept one car over a year in my life lol I'm pretty bad when it comes to swapping and changing. My Mrs actually said I need to go and see someone lol

In February this year I bought a mk5 gti pretty much the same as this one, got rid of that for a 2006 Astra vxr then got rid of that for a 2007 Ford Focus ST then got rid of that for a 2005 BMW X5 then sold that and bought a couple of different motorbikes, got bored or them and brought an Impreza Type RA lol

All that was in a few months! Good job I've got trade insurance

Just a quick update. Bought most of the parts to start putting it back together. Just one trip to my local TPS and I'll have everything.

I'm gonna get the rest of my engine out of the car this week and hopefully have the other lump in and ready to turn over by the end of next weekend.

I'll keep posting pictures as I go  :happy2:

The engine was that tight coming out I've decided to take the front end off to get the new one in.

Others might think it's a lot of hassle and try it another way but believe me if your taking the engine out and leaving the gearbox in then remove your front end lol

Makes life a lot easier and it's not hard to do.

I'll post some more pictures up soon. I'm getting the jet wash out and giving the bay a good going over.

I also had a look at the front brakes, wishbones etc to check the condition  :happy2:
