18" alloy wheel upgrade query!
« on: June 21, 2015, 11:16:48 pm »
Hi guys,

On my mk5 golf gti im currently running the standard 17" Monza alloys, ive sourced a bargain on some 18" BBS CH alloys with loads of tread on the tyres. My question is... I have the tyre pressure monitors built in on my car, and im wondering when they change the alloys over how will they go about getting the monitors onto the new larger alloys/wheels?

Cheers guys,

Joe

Tyre pressure is monitored through the ABS system.

Tyre pressure is monitored through the ABS system.

So upgrading to 18" alloys, wont make any difference to the Tyre Pressure monitors? :)

Yeah as far as I know the ABS tracks the wheels' rotations and can detect if they're off in pressure. Very cool stuff. Once you upgrade - while you're driving you have to reset the TPMS by presseing the little reset button and it'll learn the current tyre size.
