Already got itchy feet.... After 1 month!
« on: June 24, 2015, 03:49:07 pm »
This is my 2nd MK5 GTi, the 2nd bone stock one I've had too.  Only had this one for a month lol, part of me wishes I would have stumped up and got the ED30 or a MK6....  I'm my own worst nightmare with cars (I've had about 32 in all :jumpmove:), I kinda thought of this at the start but as I came from a Nissan Qashqai thought I'd be ok.  Do I go through the pain of selling up already or just keep and Bluefin it and keep adding to it?  :stupid: :stupid:

Its a 55 Reg (Sep 2005), 5dr, Black, DSG, Cloth interior (good condition), 84k miles, absolute full history (amazing amount of receipts etc), 9 or 10 stamps (can't remember top of my head) all from the same dealer it was purchased, all recalls are documented.

I am the 2nd owner, it had the cam belt and pump changed @42k miles, 200 miles ago had the Cam Chain, Tensioner and adjuster changed, brand new air con compressor with high pressure valve and re gas, 11 months mot (no advisories), 5 months warranty, 4 brand new Avon ZV5's all round (just over 200 miles on them)

2 keys, Cruise, MFSW, RCD310, 6cd Changer in arm rest, changed the climate to the 'dual' climate unit, updated CAN Gateway, 2 day old Cam Follower change, DV valve changed, 2 day old NGK BKR7EIX plugs, Team Heko Wind Deflectors (5 door), changed driver and passenger door grab handles as originals were s-Crap!

Last service was a Major @ 82k miles so a while before next service (will be minor), all alloys in great condition (17's) .. Just done the ECS Subframe spacer mod and it's booked to have the DSG service, also new top mounts and bearings on order to change :)

The body work is in good condition, there are a few marks here and there, both front wings were re-done due to minor corrosion (a month ago), as ever a few scratches here and there.

A good going over with a DA would sort most of it out.  All in all a pretty sorted stock GTi, what you think it would be worth?

(Talking about it is making me think maybe keep lol)... Just one of them.. WHAT DO I DO !!!......  :rolleye:  :fighting: :fighting:

Have you ensured its all ok performance wise mate?
Checked pcv and Dv etc ?
Torn Diverter valve could lose you 40bhp

Mine too is stock and recently ran 211bhp and 240ftlb

Its not the quickest thing in world obviously but certainly no slouch and that after owning a 320 bhp focus Rs!

Surely anything is an improvement over a Qashqai

Like yourself im a but of a nightmare with my cars
Had over 40 in 13 years but have now had my 2nd mk5 Gti around 12 months and really enjoy driving it

Have considered a mk7 Gti but whats the point its atleast 3 times the price and barely a better car, even orderdd a mk7 R but have since cancelled order due to insane delivery waits plus deciding to batter the mortgage with overpayments for a while instead

Moral of the story is as a car thats good at everything including being a bargain by todays standards you be hard pushed to find a better car than mk5 Gti without digging deep into your pockets

Yeah it's all sorted, PCV and DV, there's nothing wrong with performance, goes very well and pulls hard to!

Compared to the Qashqai, oh yes it's better haha.

I get your point about getting more for the money than what a MK5 is, like I said, I am a mare with cars and part of me just thinks I should of gone for the ED30/Pirelli/MK6 Gti.

I've also been looking at the 7R, on lease, some good deals but I own this one so.....  :rolleye:

Switching up to a nice ED30/ pirelli makes sense of you feel the normal GTI isn't enough as it's got more power, more potential and is quite rare. The MK6 gti would be a waste of time and isn't worth the money IMO.

If you'd have bought an Ed30 you'd be thinking "should I have saved a bit more and got a mk6 R?!"

It's all relative.

Sounds like the GTI is a good one, and sometimes it's worth sticking with what you know. If you really want the 300+ bhp an Ed30 can give you, a k04 conversion will sort that.

Stick with the GTI.

If it's outright performance your after maybe the Gti is wrong choice of car (even ed30 etc
Mk6 Gti offers no better performance just a troubled Tsi engine
Remember fwd has its limitations before it becomes ruind by understeer and traction loss in all conditions!

No limited slip differential doesn't help the situation either

Stage 1 R tech is way im going
Job done  :happy2:

Personally, I'd keep that rather good example of a mk5 Golf GTI and look to modify it up nicely. Currently in Performance VW they're doing up a GTI to give away so that'll give you a good guide to follow in terms of power upgrades. Speaking from experience, spending the price difference between a GTI and an ED30 on decent suspension is well worth it, my GTI handles like it's on rails and even with 260bhp it's no-where near the limit of how much power it can safely handle. Just stick with it and modify it to exactly what you want rather than swapping again and once again compromising. :happy2:

Cheers chaps  :drinking: All very good points, think I will stick with it and mod it slowly as I save and get it where I'd like it to be.  It's not out and out power I want, just something when I stomp on the loud pedal it goes.  I think upgrading to stage 1 240 bhp and a pipercross panel will be a good start.

I'm getting decent MPG too so that's a bonus, although I didn't buy it for that....

I'll get there!
