DSG advice & Ed30 oil advice
« on: June 27, 2015, 08:37:07 pm »
I'm wondering whether or not I need to position the dsg into neutral at traffic light stops or whether it's ok to leave on D with brakes on? Most my cars have been manual so I wasn't sure whether this would be putting strain on the gearbox, I was imagining it being like lifting the clutch to biting point and pressing the brake which couldn't be good or are these more clever than that?

Lastly I've heard edition 30 drinks about a litre of oil on a monthly basis, is this exaggerated amount and any truth in this statement?

Thanks in advance ☺️

Here's an extract from an article I came across on the subject:-

I have just checked the Technical Documentation and I can stand by what I said above... It is essential to hold the foot brake when the car is stationery in Reverse or Drive or Sport modes (Inc Manual Mode)....

It is not recommended to put in Neutral at traffic lights. You should just leave it in Drive with the Foot Brake on...

If you release the foot break (on a steep upward gradient for example), the clutches will overheat and disengage. You should not allow this to happen...

If you consult page 123 of the manual for the car, it will have basic information.
