Sold MFD2 on eBay - auto description said touchscreen :(
« on: June 28, 2015, 12:33:20 pm »
Sold this on eBay - buyer responded with "not as described".

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Volkswagen-MFD2-Sat-Nav-Golf-Transporter-T5-etc-/281725808398?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item41982aaf0e

When I asked what, he said the following:

"The item I Received was not how I wanted it. I wanted it It to be touch screen , dvd, cd , navigation, gps, and the one you sent me was not right for my car. Please I would like to return it because the one you sent me is old."

Normally, I'd tell him to run and jump - but I did a search on the page and found "touch screen" in the ever-helpful auto description (that I couldn't remove when making the advert) that eBay provided. Brilliant.

I see he also expected DVD - I guess I was right in saying it's the DVD version for Sat Nav discs and I was in no way trying to mislead.

Any ideas here? Should I refund the money and take the £15 hit on postage? I phoned eBay but they cannot intervene until 8 days later - leaving my PayPal -£200 and no way to use eBay without first paying that negative balance off.

eBay pretty much always side with the buyer now. I've had a couple people open a dispute and I've accepted a return and they have to add a tracking number and eBay will refund them automatically when the tracking States it's arrived.

When the item has arrived it's been an empty box! And there's nothing that I could do about it

...Exactly!

That's my point - the buyer thought he'd be getting a touch screen thanks to eBay's auto description of an MFD2. Apparently you can connect a reverse camera and a telephone to the ole MFD2 as well - who knew?

Anyway, the question I'm asking is: is eBay at fault here or am I? All I would be asking from eBay is to cover my postage costs.

You can connect a reverse camera. My brother in-law has a Scirocco reverse camera is connected to his MFD2.

It seems there was a kit that could connect with the MFD2: 9w3. Not available anymore.

Check this topic: http://www.golfmkv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=183288

There was also an external touchscreen module that you could connect to any VW radio:

Cool. Well, I don't think I'll win this one. Lesson learned: never trust the auto description from eBay.

Can you not just tell the buyer to post back asap with tracking number and you refund him soon as item arrives safely etc
If ebay won't intervene for 8 days thats plenty of time to sort it or failing that cancel the card linked to your paypal account plus remove it from your paypal profile, unsure how effective that will be but might stop them just helping themselves to the money back without your say so

Be in contact with the buyer before pay pal intervene. Tell him u will cover the cost of the return. Full refund will be given when item is returned. Lesson learnt write your own descriptions on ebay.

Ebay/amazon are hard work these days they treat buyers like kings and sellers like scum.

Hope u can get the unit back in one piece.
