What issues are you having Monte?

No issue's at all mate......just letting TC know about the sleepless night I had, and the constant worry I have suffered since he made such a wounding comment!!!

 I'm only Joking, of course........I admit, I did worry a little at first, but the car is well looked after and maintained, and there are no leaks etc. Oh, and I keep a keen eye on my Oil level too.   (Rich)

Oh, and I keep a keen eye on my Oil level too.

You're supposed to check the oil regularly??

Ooops....my first Turbo car....not checked it since purchase early October .  :ashamed:

Done around 1700 miles so far  - best check it tomorrow. Is once a month an adequate checking interval?

Checked my oil - it's between min and max so i'll by a 1 litre oil thingy, but, question - what's the standard oil for these cars? Make and viscosity anyone? I have some Mobil 1 fully synth in my garage for my GT3 but dont think that'll be suitable at all as it'll prob have non-synth in the car already.

Go get yourself some Castrol Edge 5W-30 oil at Halfords. Be prepared to pay around £14 for a litre.  :scared:

I was told by VW not to use this. Although my engine is a 1.6 fsi. They said it had to be Castrol SLX or something like that. It was £11 from the dealers for a litre. I dont know if they wanted me to buy from them or if i actually cant use the edge with my engine.

After my Costco supply of Castrol Edge 5W-30 ran out (it was only £5 a litre a couple of years ago!) - I decided to buy in bulk (via ebay) works out about £8/9 quid  or £7 hmm can't remember if the top of my head.. but anyway

I think my local (crap) VW Leeds sells it reasonably cheap at £11 a litre. If I was really stuck I would buy from there as you can easily pay up to £19 at petrol station for this stuff. The only good thing about black gold is the shares I hold in some companies drilling it!!

Duh....just checked the copy service invoice i obtained from the dealer who carried out its first and only service so far.

They've put in Helix Ultra VX 5W-30 so assume the Castrol 5W-30 stuff will mix ok with this?

Is the Helix Ultra an ok oil?

(apologies for taking this topic way off topic!!)

So long as there both fully synthetic then I can't see there being any problem.. You would only have an issue running a mineral oil with Semi or fully synthetic etc.. It'll be fine mate  :happy2:

that Helix Ultra VX 5W-30 is made by Shell who have apparently taken over the supply contract from Castrol.

It'specifically formulated to meet the needs of most VW, Audi, Skoda and SEAT engines and is developed for Long Life service.
