Brake disc and setup help
« on: June 30, 2015, 10:32:38 pm »
Soo its noob time so please excuse.

So iv currently got on my car are i presume the standard size 312mm on the fronts although they are drilled and grooved and also what i belive to be mintex pads i think they are?

Trouble is i have white wheels, so i expect to see brake dust but they brake dust off these seem to be horrendous!

So im wondering what will help reduce this or which causes more brake dust. Is it the cheap pads or the discs been drilled and grooved thats the problem that would create more brake dust than the norm.

And big brake set up is a little out of my budget but i got around £400 to replace front and back discs and pads if need be.

Thinking of going for plain set of discs so wondering can i fit larger than 312mm without changing anything else if so what is largest i can fit? And what would people recommend for what im looking for?

Anyones help is much appreciated,  not very clued up with brakes etc.

Car is only used for normal day to day driving

Cheers Daz

The pads will most likely be causing the dust.

You cannot fit bigger discs to standard calipers.

If you have £400 then I would suggest getting an R32 front setup as it's a vast improvement over the std GTI setup (which is crap IMO).

If you're sticking with the standard setup then I would suggest Mtec for discs as you can choose between plain or patterned discs and I've had a few sets with no issues. Pads wise anything with a brembo badge will be good or Mintex M114's, do a search on which are best as I got rid of mine pretty quickly due to sh*tting myself within 5 minutes of the car being remaped.
