Rear Wiper Washer Jet
« on: December 24, 2009, 09:04:55 pm »
My rear washer jet has stopped working... first I thought it might be the cold weather but the fronts are working... am I correct to assume only the front washer jets are heated?

Where do I check for the rear washer jet...can't seem to find it..

Cheers.  :rolleye:

The jet is in the thread where the wiper arm fits to the car.
There is a black plastic cover masking it which can be unclipped
Cheers

Got the car booked in tomorrow.  Service desk seem to think its probably the water pipe to the rear washer jet that has worked its way lose.

Apparently its a common issue across many VWs (not just the Golf)

Check this out...my local VW dealer tried to swindle 75 quid for sorting out the rear wiper washer jet problem.

It turns out that one of the pipes had worked its way lose near the washer tank that supplies fluid to the rear wiper.  All they ended up doing was reattaching this pipe and securing it with additional clips.

Needless to say I kicked up a fuss as to how it all came to 75 buck and why it wasn't covered under warranty.  Considering that the washer fluid had anti-freeze and the dealership previously had admitted to it being a common fault.

What also got me wound up was that they also tried suggesting the after market Forge coolant pipes may have had an impact.  I obviously challenged them to explain how the engine coolant pipes were related to the washer fluid pipes...it's unbelievable!!!

Anyway, to cut a long story short I agreed to pay £25 in lieu of the time spent isolating  the fault and removing and re securing the washer fluid tank.

Still feel a bit miffed, especially when they just go ahead and do stuff and assume "muggins" will simply pay for it.  I am sure some people just pay and go...

Name and shame....

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Did you have VW approved washer fluid in the tank?

I was reluctant to name the dealership in the spirit anonymity...since you ask it was Wayside in Dunstable.

In their defence we did come to an amicable arrangement in the end - but boy was it hard work when it should have been a hassle free and pleasant experience.

It was at the time when the rear washer went "tits up"...  I only got to use the washer jets in vigour during the snow with all the salt being flicked up on the screens during motorway driving.

Whilst on the subject would it be ok to use this cheap and cheerful screen wash additive:

You should use the approved stuff.  Using 'other' stuff is often the cause of the pipes blowing off.

Not sure about VW but I know Skoda have issued a Tech Service Bulletin about it and enforce it quite rigourously. Wrong screenwash and no warranty claim.

Fair play vRStu... the point is that the dealership were suggesting that I had used non-approved washer fluid (without any evidence) - when in actual fact I have never had the need to fill the washer fluid tank certainly not between services...
