Manual gearbox
« on: July 01, 2015, 08:05:14 pm »
On the gti are the gearboxes strong or prone to failure?

I ask as my last car Audi A4 5 speed manual 2004 1.8t the gearbox bearing was going And shaft needed replacing only at 111k miles.

I am unsure if I am hearing things or there is some other issue but since the audi I am suspicious of every noise. There is a little now and then when breaking and there is a high pitch noise at  very low speed???

Have you changed the oil?  Whilst they are supposed to be 'filled for life', they definately appreciate an oil change every 80k miles - I would change mine at 40k miles.
