ED30 Complete Power Loss - Solved?

Just had a message from my brother saying that his ed30 has lost all power. He was going up a hill, power completely went esp and epc lights came on.

It will drive on the flat but will only Rev to 1800, if he tries to drive up hill it stalls. He's had it recovered to a garage, obviously the first step will be to scan for codes but what should be checked next? Diverter valve? Pcv?

The full checks, DV, PCV and cam follower. Did he see any smoke from the exhaust after the power went? If so, what colour?

He doesn't remember seeing any smoke but he probably wasn't paying attention tbh. Cam follower was changed recently and DV is relatively new but he'll get them checked anyway. I'll report back when he knows more

Does sound like throttle body 

I'm assuming that a fault code will be logged if that's the case? Any idea of cost on a replacement throttle body?

New TB is a little over £300 notes...

So it was scanned for codes and threw up:

P0222 - Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor B - below lower threshold

This was cleared, car was driven and drove ok briefly until power was cut again, management light didn't come on initially but did after a short while. It was scanned again and showed the following codes:

P0222 - Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor B - below lower threshold

P1093 - Fuel measuring 2 system 1 bank - not consistent signal

Now P0222 shows as:

P1093 is:

Check Fuel Filter and Filter in Fuel Pump Casing

IMO you need a new TB as one of it's internal sensors is faulty.

Other than swapping out the TB for another one is there any way of confirming that it's at fault? @bacillus

After a conversation with Matt and Only Charged Dubs he suggested a faulty throttle pedal sensor. Does anyone know if my 05 Gti throttle pedal will be the same as his 07 ED30 one?

The error P0222 - Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor B - below lower threshold suggests the issue is your throttle body that includes its 2 sensors. Your throttle body is attached to the lower side of your intake manifold.

IMO Changing your throttle pedal is unlikely to be of any use...

Just to update this, he ordered a pedal from VW and fitted it this morning. We took it out and it boosted and ran fine until it shifted gear under full throttle. Then it went straight back into limp mode.

We got it back and I decided to check the cam follower and pcv valve for piece of mind. Cam follower was ok, however idle didn't change when the dipstick was pulled.

I swapped my pcv valve onto his, took it out again and it looks like no more limp mode!
